Does anyone have any recommendations for buying a house to rent and possibly retire in another country? Looking for specific locations and experiences? After a long time in EUCOM we bought a house and are looking to use it as a rental when we leave the area before we retire. |

The logistics of being a long distance land lord have always stopped me. Hypothetically, it would be really interesting to know how things would have worked out on the one I dreamed about. That would have been Queensland, NZ about 2001. Though I REALLY suspect it wouldn't pencil out better than sticking with my normal investments (which we did) at the time. It's fun to dream though. |

My own experience is that there are property managers in most developed countries that make this possible for normal people. It gets complicated from a tax standpoint and as you enter retirement or try to go for residency or citizenship. Just interested in people’s experiences. Europe, the Commonwealth and select Central America/South America is the only place I think about. |
