Our oldest is telling us it's time, again. I thought she did before, but I fear I was selfish in not acting. I may or may not post back here with pics of her, but it's the pits. I'm a crazy that's cried more over pets passing than people. Not complaining but sharing, I guess because I know for a fact that all the limitless love we get from these little souls will forever outweigh the pain we experience when this time comes. |

It's been aweful every time. It's the last thing you have to do for your pal though. My condolences. |

That sucks dude. I feel your pain. We just had to put our bestest friend down a couple weeks ago. Standard poodle, only almost 10. Something went south real fast neurologically and she couldn't stand up or walk. We went through over 1k of x-rays and blood work before our vet recommended going to a neurologist. We decided we weren't going to get into 5k+ vet bills before actually seeing neurological specialist. One of the worst decisions we've ever had to make. The only good thing we discovered out of all of this was finding a vet that comes to your house for the euthanasia. We did it in the yard where she used to love chasing squirrels. Sorry for your loss |

I felt the same way with the loss of parents and dogs. Helping your beloved pet cross over is the last act of love and kindness you can show them. I wanted to be with them during their final moments as I could offer them some comfort rather than having them cross over in a vets office that they fear and hate. I wept like a little girl when my 15 year old Border Collie, Buster's time to go happened. I still choke up thinking about him, and it is near ten years later. In retrospect, I'm very glad I stayed with him as his life ended. I wouldn't have wanted him to have to face that all alone. At least now I know that he knew he was receiving love as he gently went to sleep for the last time. |

I want his last feeling to be that I was there. |

It sucks having to say goodbye. It is even harder on the kids. Threads like this always make me tear up thinking about the pets I have held as the life left them. I hope it’s at least a decade before I have to go through that again. I just wish my wife would let me bring the dog into bed tonight, he can tell I am sad right now and he wants to help. Dogs and cats are one of the greatest things that God put on this earth. It is very rare to find any person or other animal that will give you the loyalty, love, and devotion of a pet. |
| Well that was tough, cried my heart out. She was my girl for almost fourteen years. Weird how that breaks me up more than most people passing have. We were probably being selfish for too long already, as I fear she had been telling us for a while. We're still blessed with other pups that love us more than life itself, and I'm praying my girl is reunited with the others that had hearts overflowing with love. |

Some of the worst times of my life. Now I'm facing a little different problem. I'm "The Guy" for our three dogs; two of them are lying right here beside me right now in fact. They are way too attached to me, and there's a good chance that at least two of them will probably outlive me. We've had some experience with me being unexpectedly away for a few weeks before, and it didn't go well. They are going to be lost if I just don't come back one of those times. It's probably not something most people worry about, but it bugs the hell out of me. |
| My golden died at 7 in August. Took a pic of him and boom, he passed an hour later, totally unexpected. I cried for days. Still get upset when I come in the house and he isn't right at the door. The empty house and the empty heart weigh on you. Just be there for the pup when it's time. Mine passed with me holding him. Good luck op. |
