What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biology's workhorses its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery. Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes. You can help by simply running a piece of software. And then install it.[/li] Enter in team: 40965 Enter your arfcom nick name. Program will finish install. On your desktop the program is called FAHControl. Run this. It will download a "work unit" and the start processing it, you will notice your PC fans kick on. It's all automatic from here, just let it run as long as you can. If you need to pause there is a control button on the taskbar, looks like multicolored blobs. You may experience a higher electrical bill, and wear and tear on your PC due to heat, so make sure your fans are clean and working. I came looking for the thread because I just built a new pc, first in about 8 years. Intel 265KF, Nvidia RTX 5070 when I fold ( I usually only do F@H and BOINC in the winter) it should do quite a bit better than my 7700K with a GTX1070Ti |

I was just looking for the old thread as I upgraded to a 5080. I was using a 4070 and a 3070 and getting about 12m PPD. I decided to do an upgrade before GPU prices get even more insane, and I can recoup some good money for the used cards. The 5080 is giving me about 23 - 24m PPDs. ETA - I would not endorse using a CPU for processing, the amount of PPDs vs the increase in heat generated doesn't seem to be worth the risk. ETA II: Link to the Folding Home Page. I never ran the Folding@home client, I ran the Einstien@home one for a couple of years. Sure miss the Seti@home client/screensaver, ran that on many pc's back in the day.  Edit someone made a 10 hour youtube video.   SETI@Home Classic Screensaver (10 hr remix) |

Protecting privacy will come at a cost. Use encrypted email (Proton), messaging (Signal), and password manager (KeepassXC). Use a vetted VPN only!, Social media is mind poison.
