Back in 1993/94 I was in a pHD program and was going to minor in electronic art. In one of my classes was were on SparcStations (I think SparcStation2s). We had the digitizing tablets with the puck that had the crosshairs along with an optical mouse. I am trying to remember the drawing application that we used. I am pretty sure it was not Autocad... But I really don't remember. Google keeps saying Autocad... but I can't find other drawing packages that were out at the time for the Sparc platform. Thanks!! |

In 1988 at the same university in engineering we had to take a mechanical drawing class. Part of that semester was spent on a CAD - VersaCad on a 286. Big difference!!! |

Autocad wasn't supported on unix back then (hell, I still don't think it is.) My work back then had me in contact with the engineering groups that did Sparc and Intergraph's Clipper. Intergraph's cooling design was insane. It was liquid cooled but not the way they do it today -- they built the entire motherboard to be immersed in a bath of flourinert and then radiated the heat away using that. |

Back in the early 90s, your choices would have been pretty wide open. Unigraphics Microstation Catia (I only used it on IBM gear) BRL-CAD (ugly interface) ProEngineer I-Deas There were some sample programs that Sun offered on its Solaris Developer Toolkit CDs or QIC tapes. Sun OEM'd some libraries and such from 3rd parties (X/Open?) that let you build a custom app/interface using their Solstice IDE. I switch between freecad 1.1 and turbocad these days, depending on what I am trying to do. |

I ran the Quiet Tool on a Spark Station. I did signal integrity analysis on 14 layer, double sided pc boards for avionics. It was manditory at Honeywell. Our signoff was required before a pc could be released for production. One group pencil whipped the sign off. It did not go well. Google 737 yaw damper. United Airlines flight 585 When we finally got to run an analysis we could see the problem. |
