Looking at a couple of watches for Christmas. $300 ish range. I havet bought any watches in probably 30 years and that was a Timex $20.  What do you guys think of these two brands? Is everything garbage or what? These are just two I stumbled on. Do you have a size preference? Did you confirm that the watches are in the size range you want? The seiko is an auto, is the Bulova an auto? I like autos on the larger size. I have a seiko 5 but I tend not to wear it because it is too small for my tastes. Other than that....either or, both nice. I found a nice sized Citizen auto a couple months ago and kind of wish I had bought it. |

Both good brands. Bulova is owned by Citizen now. I like both, so i'm good with Bulova. One of my favorite watches is my Bulova Witon GMT. The only issue at that price is the crystal. I no longer buy watches that do not have a sapphire crystal. The mineral crystals just scratch too easy. Sapphire can still be had for a little more. If you dont have a winder and dont want to wind an automatic daily, i would get a good quartz. Grab and forget. What size is your wrist? Do you like a 40mm+ or 35-39mm? I would look at Tissot in that price range. Tissot at Watchmaxx. |

Seiko is 41 mm I looked at the Seiko 5 also, I tend to like the bigger watches. I have been looking at everything really. Its been so long since Ive even had a thought about buying a watch. Watches are battery (quartz), wound by hand, wound by a weight/movement (automatic) or solar. The Bulova will say which of those it uses, more than likely it will be described as Quartz (battery operated) or automatic. Some people don't care what they have on their wrist and some do. I was not really a watch guy. My wife had bought me a quartz invicta and I would occasionally wear it but then she bought me an invicta auto and I suddenly really liked watches. Just found an appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into them. Now I have 4 or 5 autos. Got my grandad's pocket watch fixed and bought a couple more pocket watches on ebay. If I had to wear a non auto then I would probably go with the Citizen eco drive. They are quality and last. |

In that price range, I'd stick with Seiko, Citizen or maybe Casio depending on what style of watch you are looking for? Which one is completely a matter of what features/style you are looking for and what looks good to you? |

I really have no use for a Dive type watch. Also eyeing a Bulova Men's Classic Dress Surveyor 2-Hand Day/Date Quartz Watch. |
