| I just picked up an almost new bare steel Ohio deadlift bar from a local for $250, smoking deal. My DL been stalled for 7 months, and actually regressed at times, was hoping this would help breakthrough my plateau. But one session with it so far, I'm a bit less stable using it, so looks like I have to get used to the extra whip. |
|
The other day I was doing bench press and when I looked up, I noticed one of the bolts through a pulley wheel on the pull-down system looked odd. On closer look, the nylock nut had almost come off. So, don't forget to check that stuff occasionally. |
McCarthy was right.

It also allows me to do some other exercises, face pulls and tricep pull downs are biggies. All for under $100, I'm talking about a single pulley and cable, couple of handles. Geez - I’m embarrassed to post my set up after seeing y’all’s! I just started lifting again 5 months ago tomorrow. I had a decent bench but really wanted a rack. I’m limited on space in the shed so I opted for this half rack used for $250. I’ve got the standard 300# plate set and dumbbells 10-40#. I got one of those cheap pulley setups (I actually love it) and just picked up a used Ohio bar with clamps for $100. It’s got some surface rust but lots of life left in it. Honestly I can do almost any exercise I can think up and love the fact that the pull-up bar comes out and drops into the j hooks for dips. I love my setup and like others have said - no going to the gym, no waiting on machines, I listen to my music and all in all it’s awesome. I’m sure I’ll pick up some other items as time goes on but I love the homeAttached File gym! |

Worst part about moving is relocating all the gym equipment. Last trip of the day was moving a full set of 5-90 lb dumbbells and 680 lbs of plates from one basement and into another. Hope to have updated gym pics in a couple of weeks. Attached File |

Built this gym with about the cheapest stuff I could get. Been out of the game a while so didn't want to spend a fortune until I can convince myself that I'll stick with it. Well I've stuck with it so far! The cheap Walmart rack is hanging in there strong! Attached File Got a bumper plate storage rack and a weight tree coming for my 1" plates. Put in the last piece of hardware today in the gym; wifes pull up bar. Moved into the new house almost three weeks ago and loving the ability to just go out to the garage and get in a METCON or do some lifting. Have a Rogue 30/24/20” box and a Concept 2 rower scheduled to arrive next week which will round us out until later this year while we look for sales on more bumper plates and heavier kettlebells. Love the DIY stuff. I think it’s time to update my FID bench (it’s a flaming piece of poo). The Rep AB-3000 caught my eye a few years back but I never ordered it. Are there any others in that $ range that I should be looking at? I don’t use the decline but the kid does, so I’d like to have that. Something solid enough to hold 700# or so. My current big box bench is a rickety thing and it’s scared me a few times the way it wobbles and pops. |

My current big box bench is a rickety thing and it's scared me a few times the way it wobbles and pops. I went with a Titan "FID" and it feels so much better. But it's heave as shit and a pain to move, even with wheels. That solid as rock feeling is worth it though. I wanted to buy all in one purchase, but if not the AB 3000 would have been the main competitor. |

That looks to be very similar. I’m finding there are considerably more options than 10yrs ago, but most are brands I’ve never heard of. I do have a rogue flat bench that I put in the rack for heavy benching. The old one was relegated to dumbbells only but even at that it sucks when getting set up with heavy ones. |

Posting here as Im considering upgrading now and kind of stuck on what to get Currently have the TDS Fitess/NewYorkBarbells LOW rack. This almost touched the joists at my old house and the current home Ive been in a few years and have 13" more clearance to work with. Attached File I picked up a barbell/weights years ago off CL and have been using them for everything. Makes some serious clanging when doing DLs Also got a set of Powerblock ELITE EXP dumbbells with Stage 2 and 3. I find them so much better for chest exercises than using a BB. Anyways. Im debating getting a taller rack and one with a lat pull down/low row attachment. Not sure if I want a set up with 1:1 pulley or 2:1 for flys and stuff like that. I do NOT need super expensive gear as its just me using it and Im not moving serious weight. My current rack has been fine for about a decade and isnt anything fancy. I can do pull ups on it, but would much rather have a lat pull down and low row cable set up. |

I ended up removing mine and getting a functional trainer. I haven't yet decided if the functional trainer was worth it. I definitely use it, but that's a lot of space and money. |
McCarthy was right.

I incline/bench using DBs outside the rack or with the BB on the front of the rack. Safety is definitely second in those moments , but it works for me. Im not looking to set PRs or anything, just make steady progress. I really just want more utility than I have. Id would add one of the amazon pulley kits, but my crossbar is so low (70") that Im not sure how useful it would really be. |

Alright so Im having a bit of analysis paralysis, which is very common for me when I spend money on something and dont want to regret it. I also dont like overspending on getting more than I dont need. Thus why Im stuck ![]() Currently I have the posted above low ceiling rack (70" or whatever). Its a 2x2 and a little wobbly at times. Its never made me nervous, but I just want something taller and nicer so I can add on a cable attachment. I miss doing low rows/lat pull downs at the gym as I find them more enjoyable than pull ups and bent over rows. Im not moving serious weight, Im not pretending Im the Hulk or young. If I hit 225lbs on bench that would be a serious accomplishment for me. If I hit 315 squat, same. I dont need a Rogue rack, that would be overkill. I had bought a 'Mikolo F4' from Walmart, but ended up canceling it as I saw too many poor reviews. I poke around FB MP, but not finding much other than a Body Solid GPR378 w/ lat attachment and 200lbs stack for $800. Its seriously tempting and stout, but I dont know if its more than I really need. So help a guy out with figuring it out. Im losing my freaking mind!

My son squats over three plates and it's enough for him. BUT they stopped making the cable attachment for it. I was using a loose pulley and loaded pin which is not very fun (it does work but slows down transitions and wobbles) so I wanted a lat/low row attachment 2) an assload of companies have come out making budget racks. They might include functional trainers etc I have watched a lot of reviews and don't trust some of that shit. One review I watched was for a rack that said 14 gauge but only the base was 14, the rest was 16. The more complexity you add the more corners those new fly by nite companies can cut. (This includes Fitness Reality) I decided I wanted a long time, well known fitness company. Rep and Titan have the go-to racks in that category. 3) The Rep 1100 is the same dimensions as the Fitness Reality I had and seemed a no brainer BUT the Rep 1000 had 2 more inches of depth and 2" hole spacing. The Titan T2 has the same dimensions. I wanted the depth and hole spacing so I was between those two. 4) I spent a long time looking at both (as Black Friday was approaching) I decided I liked the Titan cable attachment (lat/low) more, (ask why off your interested) and that's the way I went. I wish I could get flip down safeties. Titan doesn't make them in that size and Rep does. I didn't realize that until after the fact. (Ask me why flip down safeties if you're interested) 5) all in all I'm happy with my T2, but would probably have been as happy with the Rep PR1000. |

Any good recommendations for decent sized speakers I can permanently mount in a garage gym and plug into outlets, but just wifi or Bluetooth into from a phone to play music from Pandora and the like?
