I've been using C2 as a warmup or quick workout the past week and it shows, so did a 10k for the first time yesterday. Minor thing but proud that I just kept at it. I have C2 ADD ![]() We're slightly past halfway through the month and at nearly 700k meters? I think 1 mil is quite attainable. I have work travel coming up so will fall off the last week (hotel doesn't have a C2, I checked) so I'll need to get after it this week and the 31st, but assuming our power players stay at it and us wannabe's keep contributing here and there I think we'll get it. |

I treated myself today to a reduced drag factor. Tail end of the row feels a lot easier. I row on a old Model B (with PM4 and ergonomic flex foot and rowing handle upgrades). The flywheel on that older model isn’t enclosed but is in kind of a wire fan cage. It’s loud, which I don’t mind — “HEAR the power” — and I get breeze in the room, which I also don’t mind. But … there’s a lot of airflow around the flywheel. Anyway, I’d been at a drag factor of 195 (damper fully open) and took it down to 140 (damper fully closed). Much smoother.

741k as of today, and we're in 35th place of 79. Not bad, not bad. |

Much smoother. ![]() Today, I learned there’s a thing called drag factor, and it’s more than just setting the vent in the middle. Drag factor I have a Model D with PM3. Sole upgrade is an iPad holder. Glad I’m not the only rowing Luddite. |
![]() My Model B will outlast me. It is solid. “Just row” is the setting I hit when I sit down. Keeping it simple and putting time in the seat. That’s a good resource you found. I’ll be using what I learned there. Further drag factor reductions are beyond my Model B, so I’ll make my own speed ring by winding retired climbing webbing around the circumference of the fan cage. I actually have 2 sprockets for the chain, but just leave it on the smaller one. I think later models don’t have that. I see someone is rowing on slides. I can’t retrofit my machine with them, but I’m interested in what they’re like. |

I’m pretty satisfied with my consistency in rowing my program, which I started around the beginning of December. I’m just going to row this month/contest out and then try to keep going. I have a May fitness goal and have a good start here I don’t want to squander. Good foundation; maybe time to raise the heart rate. (I figure this stuff out as I go. ) Good luck with the 300k; that’s quite an accomplishment. |

What an achievement! * Just checked and the most I ever did was 240K and I want to say I rowed every day that month. Had a 232K month but never came close to that again. lol. |

I had a week of travel screw things up, but I’ll finish strong tomorrow. First year I’ve completed “The Stretch” as well! Too bad I got the daycare crud right now |

It was a good month for me without any problems. Last year I had a family emergency where I had to drop everything. In the past there have been injuries. Life things happen. But this past month was smooth. Best month of rowing ever, actually, in terms of meters. I had 4 days off while a daughter was visiting, or I’d have hit my first million meters. Soon. Very soon. But Sunday is my rest day. There’s a Super Bowl party later I need to make wings for. Being in Colorado I can’t root for the Patriots, and Seattle, well … I’ll just focus on the food and my new grandson. ETA: lol yes, that was my dumbassery on full display. I thought the game was today. Wings still for dinner, though. |

I tapered off in January with some kinda hip pain. Overuse from coming in to the challenge cold perhaps, but feeling better now Regardless, a new skierg is standing in my pain cave ready to bring me a whole new sensation of discomfort ![]() Anyone doing either of the February challenges? |
| We had a solid showing on the challenge and it was great to get the team back together! I've had a busy week but will do a wrap-up here shortly. Let's keep at it this year. |

With the challenge over, I shifted my focus from meters to quality. I dropped down in minutes to let my body take a break, hung out there for a week, and just yesterday started adding a minute a day again. I’m rowing at a 2:30 pace and focusing on stroke quality, at about 21 s/m. At some point I’ll stop adding minutes and work on pace again. And I recaulked the shower stall. |
|
Quiet thread. Are people still rowing? I just shifted back to pace focus, but it’s also about time for me to think about hitting the mountain trails more regularly, which is a more core interest. The rower is nice, because I don’t have to factor in travel time or weather, but outside and moving has benefits the rower can’t touch. I think my shock cord is about due for replacement or adjustment. Easy? |

I might need to change my shock cord too but everything seems to be working alright. I haven’t had to change out any parts so far at 6.8M meters. |

Yeah apologies guys I have a bad habit of being active for the new years challenge then disappearing. Life got busy too (though proud to say I finally completed the "stretch" challenge, despite work travel trying to interrupt it. I'll review upcoming challenges and try to keep us all pressing on! |
