For whatever reason, I wanted to document the moment somewhere, to say it happened. I got to looking at my various portfolio valuations plus my home's valuation (less than $40,000 left on the mortgage), and I'm a millionaire at 38, married with 3 kids. I did inherit an appreciable amount of it (~500k), but I've diversified that slowly out of stocks and into paying off the house plus kept turbocharging my own 401k contributions. My own retirement accounts have now surpassed the amount in the inherited taxable brokerage. It wasn't a skies opened and trumpets blew kind of moment, and I know a million dollars is not what it used to be, but it's still been a cool realization to come to. |

Congrats! I just turned 38 and I'm about 580k net worth, but inherited absolutely nothing, and was emancipated at 17, and had to support myself since 14. $133,448 in student loans gave me a pretty big hole to dig out of starting out. Should break a million sometime when I'm 43 or 44 at my current projection. |
