From Igor Zheltov & Alexey Makarov we now have T-34: Development and First Combat. Just got it today and haven't read it but it appears to be the most technical book on the T-34 to date. Written by Russian researchers/historians, they relied heavily on original Soviet documents and military plant archives to tell the story of the T-34 beginning with the early Soviet tank requirements starting with Soviet copies of Renault FT17, BTs based on Walter Christie, the A-20, T-32 and ultimately the T-34 of 1941. This appears to supercede Mikhail Baryatinskiy's (smaller) book on the T-34. It's the equivalent of Spielberger's treatment of German motorised equipment and Robert Hunnicut's series on American AFVs. BTW, they wouldn't ship to me so I had to have it sent to SF. I learned it was DHL and DHL doesn't serve my area (that explains it). |
