Well I went in for a fitting on the first day the new GTS woods were available to hit. I got fit into a GT2 driver last year and its been one of the best things for me for my game to lower my score. The new woods look great and have a silver face now which is the first time they've done that in like 15 years. It stood out at address but didn't bother me as it still looks clean. I hated the carbon and metal transition on the top of my current 3W. I've been playing an off the rack Callaway Paradym 3W High loft (17.5 degree) with a lighter shaft than the one I was fit for in my driver and I've always hit it well off the tee but just never loved it off the deck. Hit the GTS2 3W in a few different offerings and generally the dispersion was a bit tighter with the heavier 70g shaft (67g is my current driver and my old 3W was 60g) but still a bit lacking in confidence off the deck. Ended up hitting a 42" vs a 43" shaft and that seemed to give me a lot more face control and brought my numbers right where I wanted them. Again sacrificing just a little bit of top end performance on the shorter shaft but I'm still getting a 20yard carry boost over my 21 degree hybrid (which I love despite being 8 years old) off the deck and getting good height and spin numbers. This was also playing a 15 degree true 3W head instead of a 17.5 degree. Now I probably could've gotten similar numbers out of the current setup (which I believe is a 43.5" shaft if I measured correctly) but in the end I like having the wood and driver match in shape and feel and I never loved the Callaway paradym look. Tl;dr go get fit if you really want to tighten up some club quirks and want to see if some equipment tweaks can change your consistency. We'll see how the club plays on course and over the next year to get a real feel but if its like my driver fitting, it was a massive improvement for me consistency wise. |

Fairway woods is on my list to address this year. I have had the GT3 driver since early last year so the GT and GTS line will be near the top of the list to try. I still have an M3 16.5 in the bag and while it still works well, it may be time to upgrade. Bought a Maltby 7 wood last year to try out because it was very cheap to experiment with. Will have to see what the numbers say. Still kind of regret giving up my RBZ Stage 2 to my brother several years ago. That thing is still a rocket. |
| As excited as I am, the downside is that the GTS woods don't ship out until June 11th so in the meantime, the simplest fix is just choking down 1" on my 3W when hitting off the deck and then playing it as normal off the tee. I also thought I'd not like the Tensei blue stock shaft but I tried the red and a black (I play a Ventus Red in my GT2 driver) but the blue had the best feel and numbers. |

I’m convinced that you could give 87% of golfers a Tensei Blue in driver/fairways and they’d be fine. For you guys trying new clubs, don’t sleep on the Lin-Q Powercore line from UST Mamiya. I picked up a driver shaft to try and it’s at least temporarily kicked my Ventus Black out of the bag. Attached File |
