Neuromancer on Apple TV Neuromancer is something that has been with me since I was a teenager. I’ve read the Sprawl, Bridge, and modern trilogies multiple times. I’ve read The Peripheral numerous times as well. Agency not so much. While I am no artist, businessman or fashionista, I am intrigued by the world William Gibson creates. I never watched The Peripheral because I have such an image in my mind of what it looks like. I don’t want to lose that. Similarly, I don’t want to lose decades of what I imagine Neuromancer to be. I know what the French tennis players look like. I can imagine Molly walking in like Sonny Chiba. I can picture the uniforms of the sailors in the Chat. The Finn? Absolutely know what he looks like, and even how Metro Holografix smells. That being said, I’ve also wanted a film adaptation (until I saw Jonny Mnemonic)… What say you? |

Hard to believe Neuromancer was published in 1984. It was so far ahead of its time. It's one of those stories that seems like it'd be very challenging to make into a movie. I wouldn't want to see it get the Ender's Game treatment. I loved the novel but didn't like the movie at all. Could it be made into a good movie? I guess it could but it would need the right director and cast. I just don't have a lot of faith in modern Hollywood. |

I think it’s possible to make a good series. One important aspect would be to keep the 1984 view of the future. For example, pay phones are not a part of our modern society, but they are key to at least one scene in the book. And smoking; everyone smokes in the book. Now, people vape. If the series replaced cigarettes with vapes, it would be ruined. Andor did a fantastic job of keeping the 1977 vibe in the settings, costumes, technology - even the colors. I hope for that level of detail and design. |
