@Lou_Daks wants a solution before he'll consider any argument so here's where I'd start:

1. Eliminate SS, add means testing to Medicare/medicaid. If you got medical problems I feel bad for you son, bend over and grab the bootstraps.

2. Institute MAiD when you can no longer pull your bootstraps up. Let's be honest, Boomers didn't pay nearly enough in SS or Medicare/Medicaid to offset Boomer medical costs in 2026 dollars.

3. Auslander Raus! Illegals get forced remigration to their home country or a country willing to accept them. Allowing open migration for 4 years resulted in 10's of millions needing housing. Essentially, we artificially increased housing demand.

4. Knowingly renting to illegals must be punished. Private landlords, PE, I don't care. If the above listed landlords accepted Section 8 they must either: pay full restitution to the taxpayer or enlist in the U.S. military for not less than 10 years in a careerfield which best benefits the government.

I'll think of more after I have my morning coffee.

Sorry. Modern society drains the youth in all modern countries of their vitality for the sake of the comfort of the old. Gotta prioritize. This generational vampirism is going to end, might as well be peacefully.

When I got my first job out of college, I set up an auto transfer of $50/week, every Monday, from my checking to my savings account. As I made more money, I increased that amount to $75, and eventually to $100. Eventually, I had $10k in there, which at the time was months worth of my expenses, and a good emergency fund...took so much pressure off my shoulders. I maintained that balance, and then started a brokerage account, and every few months transferred everything over that 10k in that savings to the brokerage account, and eventually put most of the savings account into the brokerage money market, too, to get some interest on it.

People need to stop spending money on "stuff" they don't need, with money they can't afford to blow on "stuff."  We've all done it at one time or another, but most people didn't ever learn that it's not the best path to take.

Schools and pretty much everyone has switched to "you must get a trade".  With AI on the horizon to reduce the amount of white collar jobs this is especially true.

The fear is that we see the same thing as before when we told everyone to get a degree.

Imagine, instead of three roofing companies in your town, 15 roofing companies now exist, and tons of guys are coming to your door as skilled roofers looking for off the table work as well. What do you think that is going to do to those businesses, what do you think that is going to do to wages?   You could insert any trade in this scenario.

Personally, I've absolutely no problem with the young adults under 25 living at home and paying rent and saving a crap load of money.

That's exactly what California did. The state supersedes local building codes so now mega builders can build soviet style 12-16 story apartment buildings in a city with a previous 3 story limit downtown. It's starting to look like downtown San Francisco. Oh, the building have very little parking as the city thinks everyone will walk or use the useless train that was just built that fucks up traffic for everyone.
careful what you wish for. I'll bet in 10 or 15 years all those apartments will be section 8  illegals. That's what happened to the last "affordable" apartments.

5 more years still going up, but also, high interest on top of it.

An identical couple, with identical jobs as we had 10 years ago, could not afford to buy the house I live in. Period. They wouldn't have been able to buy it 5 years ago either, but it is much worse now.

The wife and I could afford to buy our house now, due to raises and promotions etc. But it would significantly change our financial situation to do so.

Right now we have "buy anything we want, within reason" money. If we had to buy this house, today, with current prices and interest rates, "big fun purchases" would be much rarer and much more planned out.

About 14 years ago my sister was married to a dude. She was the primary breadwinner. They bought a really nice house in a decent area. He turned out to be a shitbag. Divorced about 7 years ago. Sold the house (financially it would have been nice if she could have kept it, but she was worried she couldn't maintain it as a single working woman, and was afraid of shitbird finding excuses to keep coming around). Now she is remarried, has a kid, and they rent a crappy house on a city right on the edge of a shittier city.

They cannot afford a house.

So its not even people comparing their situation to their parents and grandparents. They are comparing their situation to their older siblings, cousins, and possibly even themselves a decade ago, etc.

Sorry, do some people not remember 2008? I was making 50k working nights and the shitbox cape house behind us sold for $450k just before the crash.

New hires in my same job are hitting 115-120k starting and that same house is worth $588k.

Yea, markets are very cyclical. Talk to the fucktards who just bid $100k over asking for a $500k house.

I have said this in numerous threads.  "Starter" homes have disappeared in suburbia.  3 bed, 2 bath, builder grade on a 1/5 acre lot don't exist.  That is a modern Starter home that can be built in many areas for under 300k.  That gets a plumber and a teacher in the door in home ownership in their mid to late 20s.  2 car garage, basic appliances, cabinets, bathrooms, etc.

Boomers make the claim that the above isn't good enough for the millennials.  It is.  But all the exists is mcmansions starting at 450 to 500k and around 3000k square foot.  And since they haven't been building them around here for 20 years, the older homes are all too big or expensive unless you m9ve to the inner ring suburbs or city, and then have to deal with crime and shit schools.  There used to be townhouses in the 90s and 2000s, but they stopped doing those towards younger families, and now have super expensive fancy ones with all the possible upgrades for the retired boomers who dont want to do maintenance anymore.

Baby Boomers Better Beware

A geronticidal fury is building to the boiling point

Folks in the post-war generation born between 1946 and 1964 are now sixty or older. Scanning social media, it’s hard to miss the anger building against Baby Boomers. Those born after them are increasingly placing the blame for their woes on the unrelenting greed of the Baby Boomer generation. They believe that the Boomers had the sheer luck to be born when America was in its ascendency, and so they accumulated all the wealth, and now they are determined to take it all with them to the grave, not sharing a penny with the generations which came after.

White Baby Boomers living in single-family homes in affluent suburbs will be at the greatest risk of any demographic. The anger toward them will be come from several social vectors at the same time. People displaced from urban cores by rampant criminality will have no compunction at all against invading the homes of empty-nest Baby Boomers. Their lives will be taken in the first minutes if they are fortunate. If not, their prolonged abuse and torture will serve to amuse the new tenants. Read up on what happens to farmers in South Africa when their homes are attacked if you think I’m being hyperbolic. This is one screen capture, I could post pages and pages.

How many want to both get married AND buy a house? If you are mobile as far as employment and move every couple of years, buying a house is stupid as hell and that is exactly what many young people do. They want to travel, hard to do that when you have house maintenance to keep up on, an apartment, who gives a damn, there basically isn't any maintenance, yards, or anything else that you must do daily or weekly outside of pay your rent.

It's really sad that way to many young people really truly can't do even the most basic math, if they could, they'd realize the vast majority of what they blame Boomers for was done by the greatest and the silent [ever wonder why they keep their mouths shut ] generations AND the democrats they put and kept in power for decades. All one has to look at is the parties who were in office as a majority for much of the time and you might get a clue on who REALLY fvcked most of what you are bitching ABOUT.

Boomers didn’t cause the problems.  Their parents did by spoiling them making sure they had the greatest life at the expense of future generations without realizing it.

Boomers in general are selfish though and their preaching to younger generations is bs since they know damn well the world isn’t as good of a place today as the world they grew up in.

I’m Gen X and don’t really have a horse in the boomer vs millennials or younger race just calling it as I see it.

Sorry, all the shit you bitch about constantly was put in place for the most part before boomers ever rose to power or even vote. The rest, under democrat power, and the boomer generation was the most conservative generation stuck between several liberal ones on either side.

Sadly, we do have our share of stupid old white liberal cat farmin' women named Karen.

Now, six years later, they’re asking $270K.

The house has essentially had almost no nominal appreciation in 25 years despite the broader housing market appreciating dramatically.

Not sure what I was actually making but 60k probably isn't far off. The BCBS plan from my work had a $280 premium but was considered good with is relatively high deductibles.

I generally buy used vehicles that only net about 100-150 a month in payments (Loan of only 5-10k)

That really sucked at the time. The problem for me centers around the expectations we put on people. It was obvious I was barely making it then and compared to others it still looks like I am barely making it. It would be a lot easier to develop a path that looks and feels more sustainable if we normalized a similar life plan on a societal level.

But even the people who claim to be responsible here can't help themselves to not flex what they have.

That's what they claim at least. Difference though is I recognize how lucky I got. So I won't lecture others about avocado toast and cell phones.

Yeah I don't get it. You can buy a mobile home where I live 60 x 12 for $253,000.00 enlot rent only cost $600.00 a month and taxes are only $8,000.00 a year. I fail to see why people can't afford that right out of high school or college.

Why do you assume people deserve a new mobile home?

Find a used one for $25k with $300 rent including utilities.

Save up to buy a house with your 21yo virgin spouse and start having babies nine months later.

This is honestly the change I would suggest.

Simply, attitudes on how one lives their life and the expectations should reasonably change to match the new normal.

People have problems because they are convinced they have to live independently from their support structures.

It's weird to tell people in one breath they have to be completely set and on their own.  Then try to get them to make sacrifices to their quality of living based on outdated principles to simply maintain it.

Make it normal to live with family. How is living with family objectively any worse than living with roommates.

Make it normal to stay close to home. Why does everyone have to move multiple states away.

Make it normal to depend on one another and share.

I know many are likely to respond with the affirmative. But, I would challenge them to ask either themselves or children a question.

Would you feel like a failure if you moved back in with me? Am I a person you can ask for help? Is it okay if you can't buy a house till much later in life?

The current way we do things is such a small snapshot in the history of man. It's okay to tweak the way we do things to increase the chances of success for ourselves and our offspring.

You appear to be confused. Contribution status is largely irrelevant (though I do think we can all agree people who didn't contribute should be at the back of the line). Still, anyone complaining about it, would indeed, be a winy under achiever. Right? I mean,  as a millennial, I've been paying SS tax for 25 years, with the knowledge that I will likely get little, if any of it due to the math not working out (demographics is destiny afterall). I've worked to provide financial stability independent of that, despite paying the tax. Not sure why others (especially boomers) didn't do this. Must have been winey under achievers and did not have big enough boot straps am I right?

Oh i agree with you. People pretending (throughout most of their working adult lives might I add)  not to understand that the financial situation of SS was set a long time ago as demographics and financial trajectories of the country did not meet projects of the previous "fixes", that it all somehow, magically, was going to "work out in the end", now want to change the system once we get the the 100% known and inevitable mathematical conclusion, to get "what they are owed". These people are indeed thinking exactly in manners consistent with socialism "doesn't matter what the system is, I NEED TO GET MINE, even if we need to change the rules to take it from someone else", and all that. The people who repeat those phrases ("what I put in, pay me back with interest, what I am owed") could very easily add in the similar line of thinking of "from each according to their abilities, to each according to his needs", as apparently that is how they want to "fix" the system to "get theirs". Which again, implies underachievement and a lack of boot straps.

[DISCLAIMER: This post about growing PERCEPTIONS of Boomers. It’s not about how I feel, it’s about the growing anger toward older Americans, deserved or not.]

The image posted on this Twitter / X thread sums up the situation.

https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!71Fv!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fc065a2e0-f39c-4c45-a682-71dd3d8a9f9f_591x540.png

What am I bitching about ?

I own my house and have no debt about ready to retire and I’m 52. Most boomers I know are democrats and since they were the largest population politicians cater to what they wanted.  How is the smaller voting base of Gen X responsible for the countries problems?

I started working on a farm at age 12 saw mill at 16 construction at 18.  I’ve out worked many a boomer.  I replaced a boomer where I work and broke every metric since taking over.

I’m still ripped with a six pack and boomers with fat guts wanna tell me to pull up my bootstrap lol  I can still bale hay all day so bring it on.

No shit kids today have it worse. It's not the avocado toast and cell phones either. I work with 20-60 year olds and only the old heads have Iphone 16-17+ or Samsung S24 or newer. It’s a lie that boomers are mostly republicans and other generations are all libs. If anything younger generations are mostly against the 2 party system because they are likely smarter and realize both parties are fucking them.

That large voting block of boomers is undeniable although with a slight majority of republicans they clearly believe more in the two party system and are catered to by politicians due to their large advantage in numbers.

Gen X has a slight majority republican but much smaller numbers and started the shift of not trusting in the two party system. Their issues were largely ignored because they don’t have the numbers.

32 percent of that huge boomer generation are democrats with only a slightly higher percentage republican while only 25 percent of Gen X are registered democrats.

Not really. My two oldest daughters are both Starbucks managers while attending college. They do very well. Well enough to pay their own tuition, Gas, cars, insurance and the oldest is currently looking to buy a house.

There’s no lack of affordable homes. There’s a lack of brand new affordable homes in places with Mediterranean climates.

If you are willing to live someplace like Michigan or Iowa, in a small town you can afford a perfectly livable house, easily. The ones I linked are within a half hour commute to thousands of manufacturing jobs.
