NOTICE: ARFCOM Server Move COMPLETE (Page 1 of 2)

This week we will finally begin moving our servers from NY to a new location. The switch will take place either Friday or Saturday in the early morning hours and will most likely take several hours to complete. The site will not be available during this time. We are hoping to begin work around 3am eastern time.
Once the site comes back online, we will be monitoring all servers and services to ensure things are working optimally. Since this is a MASSIVE undertaking, please understand that there probably be additional issues, which may require extra downtime, this weekend. This move is essential for the future growth and stability of the site and will ensure that we can quickly handle any growth, or performance issues, in the future. This includes a much quicker path to additional servers and bandwidth which are needed every year. As part of the server move, we have setup a new network architecture. We have also moved the site to newer hardware, software, and operating systems. All of this is in efforts to continue to keep this community running in the best way possible. We will have additional bandwidth when we switch over and we have worked to improve cross server communications and streamline how the many part of this machine function. Gone will be the days of hamsters on wheels as we will finally have humans on treadmills to help power the site for the next 10 years! 
To summarize quickly: The servers will be down Thursday or Friday at Midnight Pacific (Fri/Sat 3am Eastern) for a massive service upgrade. We expect it to take a few hours. We will also be monitoring the site all weekend to fix any potential issues. Please be patient with us during this process. Thank you! |

OK we will bring the site down in about 3 hours and we have a 3 hour estimate on the work. Hopefully we will finish early, but you never know.

OK about 6:50 am eastern and I think we are good to go live... so welcome back.
We will be here keeping an eye on things for a few hours, then taking turns sleeping. Please try to be nice and don't burn the place down while I'm dead.

So much so that I changed careers after 30 years of upper management (lack of) planning and budgeting bullshit. It's a thankless job where people only know your name when something doesn't work and ignore you when everything goes great. Congratulations! Nice job!

I ran into a problem at approximately noon today (PST) so would be about 3 PM on the east coast.
ETA: The second screenshot shows when it actually first happened. That's Pacific time. I'm using Chrome on my iPhone. I was browsing arfcom just fine then all of a sudden started getting the following pop-ups on my Chrome browser. I can get to the site using Safari but prefer to use Chrome for everything. Any ideas? I'm thinking about deleting and re-downloading Chrome but curious if it's part of the move and I should just wait it out. It's working on my iPad, it just went down on my iPhone. When I click the "Jump To Quoted Post" button and the original post is on a different page, it kicks me back to the forum index.
ETA: Jumping to posts from multiquotes has never worked for me, just FYI. Single quotes were usually fine until now. |
