Today I had an appointment in Portland, Oregon late in the morning. There was just enough time to make it to a noon Mass if traffic cooperated. I made it with 6 or 7 minutes to spare. This is a Dominican Parish called Holy Rosary and is not far from the Oregon Convention Center. https://holyrosarypdx.org/ They are kind of special because they offer multiple Mass and Confession times every day of the week, including a daily Latin Mass. The noon Mass was said in English by the Priest while facing the alter. Notice the Alter rail cover with white cloth. Receiving while on your knees is the standard practice here. Attached File After Mass the cloth was removed so here you can see the wooden Alter rail more clearly Attached File After Mass there was Adoration. The Priest started singing "O Salutaris Hostia" and it sounded like everyone knew the words. Then he sang a prayer in English that everyone except me knew. Then the Priest and the Deacon(?) left and people were left alone and in silence for Adoration. The overhead lights were also turned off Attached File In the pews they had a letter sized prayer card with a "Prayer before Mass" on one side Attached File On the other side it had "Thanksgiving Prayer after Communion" Attached File If you are ever visiting Portland Oregon during a weekday, have the noon hour free, and want to spend some time getting closer to Jesus, I highly recommend visiting this Church. |

Beautiful! You are blessed to have that so close. If we want to go to a latin mass, the closest is about an hour away, it turns a Sunday into an all day adventure because mass starts at 11:30. So by the time you drive down, go to mass, find food and come back home, it's almost the entire day. They also have the NO mass ad orientum on Thursday nights. This at St. John XXIII in Fort Collins, Colorado on the campus. |

If you’re ever in Chicago, St John Cantius is said to be a gem. Latin parish. https://www.cantius.org/ St Peter’s in Volo, IL (north suburb of Chicago, small town) has some Latin Masses as well. https://stpetervolo.org/ Never been to either (I’m Orthodox), but Catholic friends have been to both in the past. |
