About 3am using the Huey and real weather/time settings. Departed East River, S Manhattan heliport, visibility was very poor, significant wind. Flew over to Meadow Lake near Citi Stadium, found the Globe thing, Unisphere, landed there, got out "walked" around it, got back in and went over to LGA. Departed and went back to the Downtown Manhattan Heliport and landed. Conditions were very nice and difficult. There's an iPad with low detail map that makes knowing where you are easier. Fast forward to about 7am and back at the Downtown Manhattan Heliport. Much more snow cover, pretty strong wind and very low visibility (like last night). Flew back to the Unisphere, lots of watching the instruments, same as the night before. Tried to land at the Unisphere, snow cover made ground visual reference impossible, given the strong winds with gusts and nearby trees I chickened out. Went over to LGA approaching from the rwy 31 direction, landed and got gas, no traffic seen. Off to the DM Heliport, not much to see in the visibility conditions, landed with snow blocking ground reference. I looked at ADS-B for the NYC area, nothing was coming or going there at that time. NYC has had excellent periods of very low visibility in recent times, that's the fun stuff. When visibility is better, there's a lot of interesting stuff to see in NYC. Note: the famous bull of Wall Street isn't on MSFS, not yet anyway. The MSFS Huey is a single engine, two blade, round dials model, old school. USMC still flies Huey's but twin engine, four blade, glass cockpit maybe. Sometimes the old ways are best ways. |
