No, humans are not trustworthy with that kind of recording device. People said this stuff about early camera phones. Early 3D media was supposedly used by Satan for teaching kids to kill eachother. If I wanted to “violate boundaries” as you put it, it wouldn’t be with something that has a front facing indicator light lol Nobody freaked out like this about the metaverse, so the glasses seem like they are onto something. I want to use the Oakley ones to make a surefire suppressor comparison shooting a pile of shitty overgrown zucchini squash we have, going to pick up some now lol |

But if you want to pursue that route, see what internet connected phones with video cameras in them and always online has done to kid culture, how it's destroyed their ability to find places where they can learn to be themselves and not have to perform for the camera in everyone's pocket, and how they all seem to think on some level like actors putting on a show 24/7. It's so screwed up that the youngest generation is trying to reject it. I was planning on using HSA funds for a prescription pair of the Oakleys with prizm Rx lenses for cycling and outdoor sports. Would be perfect with the integrated headphones. I scratched that idea when all the pervert stereotyping came out. YouTube review video suggestions have been replaced with reports on meta glass creeps. |

Most people just said nope and it died on the vine. Glasses have gotten a lot more public acceptance in comparison but there are still issues and of course the wrong people find a use and ruin it for everyone. My guess is the pushback is due to the inability of most people to judge when someone is recording due to it being harder to tell (if you don’t know) than it is when someone is running around with their phone or video camera. I figure we will see some video of a Karen cussing out some blind guy for wearing them in short order. |

Ost I was talking with our CPA about whether we could deduct them or not Fuck yes we can CPA advised me to keep some case photos in a log to prove they were used for billable hours More excited by translation on the go. My Spanish is pretty good, but we get a lot of casework on work related accidents because we're bilingual. This would translate and record witness interviews at the same time

It sounds like they are going to launch a “base” glasses similar to the Meta Ray Bans first before the model with the AR capabilities. To me it makes sense to judge market acceptance before you continue to sink money into a failed product i.e. their goggles. Since they will have a camera, I’m curious to see how the public reacts since it’s Apple and not basically Facebook making them. |

During Meta Connect, the company announced that it's rolling out Hearing Enhancement to supported Meta Glasses later this year (that doesn't include the Ray-Ban models, at least to start). Users can access it as part of a Meta One subscription, or pay a one-time cost of $149. There's also the option to try a 30-day free trial before committing. The software has been cleared by the FDA and is eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement, though you'd have to sort that out with your insurance carrier. It doesn't require a prescription and users can set it up at home. Wearers will be able to activate it or turn it off any time with a voice command ("Hey Meta, start Hearing Enhancement"). While Meta already offers a Conversation Focus mode to improve audibility in noisy environments, this new feature is designed specifically for users with mild to moderate hearing loss who may normally use a hearing aid. It comes alongside improvements to Meta Glasses' Detailed Responses feature based on feedback from the blind and low-vision community, as well as new customizable audio and controls. |

Full disclosure: I worked at Meta's Reality Labs until retiring earlier this year. While I didn't work on the glasses discussed in this thread, I did work on the non camera glasses coming out shortly. I have both the Ray Bans and Oakleys. I prefer the Oakleys, due to style and that they handle the weight better without sliding down my face. These are sunglasses to me, so I'll rarely wear them inside, although the Ray Bans have transition lenses and would make more sense for indoor use. My primary use case is listening to music, and have also used them to answer/make handless phone calls and texts through voice commands. This is most useful when driving. I've also used it to explain the history of things I'm looking at and perform live language translations. This was useful when I had a team of contractors at the house recently and nobody spoke English. I'll be bringing them with me to Europe next year for these purposes. For the OP, I can say that the video quality is good, but lacks a zoom, and is best at social distances. It also has poor low light performance. I've noticed that the microphone quality can be more easily distorted than I would have though. When used to record live music, I got good video, but the sound was badly distorted. On the other hand, the audio output quality is surprisingly good. It's open ear and not bone conducting as someone mentioned. It also auto compensates for ambient noise. Overall I've been pleased with them. The only people that approached me thus far knowing what they are have been very curious about them. I usually let them try them out by telling them to ask for their choice of music to be played. I've also introduced a few people to them and demoed capabilities such as video and photo capture via voice commands. Many people seem unaware of the capabilities, but do seem intrigued. I've not been angrily confronted while wearing them, but maybe I don't come off as a sleazy pervert, and certainly don't use them to intrusively record everything in my proximity. |
