After not having a Rottweiler or any dogs in our lives for about 10 years (lost Kevlar to cancer), we decided to get one late last year. Picked up Stevie born August 10, 2024 (as in Stevie Nicks) on October 10th @ almost 9 weeks old from a local breeder (known to us for years) who has been breeding Rottweilers for over 35 years. Attached File Christmas Attached File Most recent Attached File We take her EVERYWHERE. Take the kids to school every morning. To my dads house. Outdoor mall. Outdoor pet friendly restaurants We felt that something else was missing. She needed companionship other than my wife, kids, and myself. Meet Hendrix, born February 7, 2025 Attached File Attached File We picked him up yesterday afternoon from the same breeder as Stevie. When we got home, she welcomed him as if they already met a long time ago. I'll post some pics of them together as soon as they both sit still long enough  Edited for spelling. |

While in the car, a few Fleetwood Mac songs played back to back to back…on the 4th, my wife looks at me and says “My dad just named her… Stevie Nicks” With our male, we tried to keep it in the same vein. We thought Fleetwood or Zeppelin would be it. Nope. This little guy has some pep in his step. My wife thought Hendrix would be perfect. Jimi Hendrix. |

And if I did get a dog it would be one of those little fluffy things that needs a 200 yard walk and back home again not something that needs REAL exercise and proper training so my 98 lb wife can control it. Don't get me wrong. In my youth I loved large dogs. Had a Husky and a Doberman. But both of those breeds (and I believe Rotties) require appropriate socialization and training. There is an ownership investment as an improperly trained dog such as those breeds will be an issue versus my aging parents had an untrained Yorkie and really who could it hurt?

Socialization is definitely a must with Rotties. We’ve seen a handful of unsocialized Rotties and they can be VERY intimidating and dangerous. We take our girl with us to the outdoor mall weekly, on most errands where they permit a dog, and long walks around the neighborhood. It doesn’t matter who is around her, she’ll meet half way and she wags her “tail” so hard that she looks like she’s literally shaking her rear. When she’s tired of being out, she just sits and let the people come up to her. |
