Shocking look at the dumpster fire of modern education. One guy write a .75" book for second grade that is used for decades. Now 16 people are working on 3" book sets that are obsolete every fee years. Here is a math problem for us...how much cash has this drained out of the tax payer over the last 100 years.  Is this WHY kids are confused??!! Textbooks TODAY vs 1877!! |

It's odd how math education has devolved in this country. They pulled hand calculating square roots out of the curriculum over 100 years ago because kids were allegedly not intellectually capable of grasping the concepts, even at the HS level. And things have only gone downhill from there. I taught my 10 year old daughter how in about 15 minutes. She can now calculate any square root to any number of digits you'd like. It's actually pretty neat to see her confidence in it knowing it's something that isn't even taught in the US anymore. |

If I could have one "mulligan" as a parent, it would be to have homeschooled my kids. We didn't realize how bad schools had gotten. We were naive. We dutifully did our research, and bought a home in one of the top school districts in the state. All 3 kids were in the gifted/accelerated program. But all 3 struggled with math. That shouldn't have been the case, at least from the standpoint of genetics - all 4 grandparents and my wife and I excelled at math. In hindsight, instead of paying a premium to live in a track-home subdivision in a good school district, we should have bought property in a rural area and homeschooled. |

I was taught hand sqaure root calculations in early 2000s in public middle school |
