They really don't want the case heard this term Even though it’s the second time this case has made its way to SCOTUS, I think they will grant the extension |

At this point, they can't stop it. It will go to cert conference before February and would be heard this term if granted. The state is just being a douchebag and eating up time. They had one play where they could have waived their response at the last minute, the court would have then been forced to give them an extra 30 days, then they could have demanded 60 days of extensions which would have put them at possibly missing January. But they would have pissed off the court for possibly nothing gained if no one retires this summer. Kharn |

Quoted: I want it heard now also. It's good in the fact that they are realizing this ain't going to go as they planned and they will lose. Quoted: Quoted: Bad. We want it heard this year with a decision published by July 2025. Next years court could look very different I want it heard now also. Quoted: Funny. I can actually, mostly, act like an adult and not put everyone I disagree with on the ignore list. Anymore there are tons of pedophiles and communists on this board. I don't give a fuck what either has to say. Not that fadedsun falls into either category. He is a good dude IMO. |

Those Maryland commie bureaucrats are actually arguing that they are too busy with other 2A cases they are being sued for and that bridge collapse. Reminds me of what the judge tells Voight when he's asking for more time:![]() Rainmaker - "In Over Your Head, Son" - Danny Glover x Matt Damon x Jon Voight |

Reminds me of what the judge tells Voight when he's asking for more time: Maybe the asshat politicians in MD should stop passing so many fucking stupid gun laws, so their poor tax payer funded state attorneys don't have to defend all of them in court, and actually work for a living. What a thought. |

Owning an AR15 is a human right and should be legal to buy and own in all 50 states. FPC and our very own Miami is making that happen. Quoted: A good reminder to donate to FPC https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/277447/IMG_2689-3277609.jpg Agreed. FPC is superb. Quoted: Funny. I can actually, mostly, act like an adult and not put everyone I disagree with on the ignore list. I used to have an ignore list but then I realized it showed more of my weakness than anyone else. I'm on quite a few ignore lists for some rather interesting reasons, the least of which saying I didn't plan on voting for Trump (or Harris, for that matter). It's comical. |

Quoted: The M1A is banned in Maryland? Quoted: Quoted: ^^ cant argue with that statement wish they would remove the ban, so that way I can finally buy a M1A Tanker Rifle (.308) cuz I like it. I couldn't afford it at that time before 2013 The M1A is banned in Maryland? In .308, yes. You can buy one in 6.5 because the barrels aren't interchangeable. Or a Polytech, since it has some metric parts. ![]() Kharn |

Quoted: Owning an AR15 is a human right and should be legal to buy and own in all 50 states. Just to clear things up, we can certainly buy AR-15's here. It just has to be an HBAR type barrel. No pencil type barrels. And we can indeed buy class 3 weapons, suppressors etc. We do have a ban on buying mags over 10 rounds in this state. However, there is no law that prohibits us going to nearby states and buying any high cap mags, even 75 or 100 round drums and bringing them home. There is no law against the possession of high cap mags. |

They really don’t want the case heard this term My guess is that Maryland is attempting to stall in order for their state government to plan out how to quickly moot the law should FPC be granted cert. By mooting I mean, they'll repeal the current law, and petition the high court that the case is now moot. Then the state will pass a different law with similar or greater restrictions. ETA: I fully expect that IL will attempt the same strategy when our AWB (called PICA) reaches final judgement in the 7th and we head to SCOTUS. |

Quoted: Definitely following this one. SCOTUS would be right to be pissed off about the delay tactics. Only they aren't. SCOTUS views these kinds of procedural moves as being all part of the game. Otherwise, SCOTUS would have granted cert when the appeals courts played their en banc games. In this MD case, it was GVR'd back down after Bruen. The 3 court appeal panel was going to rule against the ban, then the rest of the appeals court took it up en banc rather than have a pro-gun decision be written into the record of the case. The 9th circuit is doing the same thing to the decision by Judge Benitez out in California. At any time SCOTUS could just pluck these GVR'd cases right back from the appeals courts, but they let them play their fuck fuck games. |

MD legislators can only meet from mid January to mid April each year unless a special session is declared. But they cannot collect campaign donations during any session so they want to avoid a special session if at all possible. I'm not sure they could move quickly enough to repeal the AWB if cert was granted in mid January to pass a repeal for the governor's signature before the case was argued, and new laws in MD take effect on 1 October of the same year. Sometimes they become effective 1 July, but that requires something else, I think passing as an emergency bill with more than simple majority? Kharn |

Lots of companies will mark even pencil weight barrels hbar as there is no legal measurement that qualifies it. |

Usually the M1A, with 10 round mags, is OK. I believe they're legal in California, Illinois. Even NY i think? No pistol grip or collapsible stock. Mine doesn't have a bayonet lug, but does have a flash hider. ARs in .308 aren't even banned in Maryland are they? Only 556 ARs have any restrictions, right? |

Y'all ain't going to believe this. When you buy certain weapons here, it's a 7 day waiting period while the MSP makes sure this purchase is legal. Then you don't get a notice from them that you are approved. You get a notice that you are "not disapproved". Can you imagine that? |

Quoted: So when will SCOTUS grant or deny this extension? Well.. I think the last day for cert conference this year is Dec 6. If they get the second extension that won't happen. Then it gets pushed to early/mid january '25. BUT... I have the weird feeling that the SCOTUS isn't going to take it up right away. They are going to want to handle MD, IL, and CA all at the same time. Which means, waiting for another year. I think the 2A judges on the court really want to get their hands on the IL ban because that is the worst transgression against the 2nd amendment out of all of them. If they strike down the MD ban, then parts of the IL ban will remain. If they strike down the IL ban, then they all fall. |
