My son just got his anchor globe and eagle.
he told me his job is going to be a mech tech gunner what is that exactly?
we go to graduation next week and he gets 10 days leave then he goes to camp lejeune.
then he goes to mississippi.
we were just wondering what that job is.

Did he give an MOS? (4 digit numeric code associated with occupational specialties)

It’s eagle globe and anchor. But close enough.  If he is going to Mississippi then he is probably going into aviation support.  Here is what the Marine Corps teaches there.
The entry-level courses and the MOS’s earned are Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Course (AOS 7041), Marine Aviation Supply Specialist Course (MASS 6672), Aviation Maintenance Administration Specialist Course (AZ 6046) and IMRL Asset Managers System (IAMS 6042).

I don’t know where he gets the gunner thing, he will probably get a chance to shoot, but all Marines will get the chance eventually.

He didn't select his MOS prior to going in?

Completely guessing but based on the school location and what you've said, I'd guess he's going to end up enlisted aircrew gunner, MOS 6199. If so, you have a pretty smart boy there. To go in open contract and land that MOS, he must have scored a monster GT score on his ASVAB. The proper MOS name is "Enlisted Aircrew/Aerial Observer/Gunner", and he probably means mech/tech/gunner. He'll be trained well enough in the systems of the aircraft to make emergency repairs in the air (mech), trained on the avionics and trargeting/observation systems *(tech), and sending shit-loads of death and destruction from the heavens (gunner).

All in all, sounds like a pretty badass MOS. Could have done worse!

If it's what is explained above (Enlisted Aircrew/Aerial Observer/Gunner) then it should be a good time.

There might be some of this too . . .

Congrats to him and your family.

Aerial observer is a secondary MOS if I recall. As in you train with your primary mos and do that job, then if you can swing it you do OJT and get certified as an AO/aerial observer. Usually have to be a plane captain or CDI first.

Ask him for his 4 digit MOS code. Then we can tell you exactly what he’ll be doing and where he’s going.
