A bar at the beach used to make the most smooth flavorful margaritas. It closed suddenly. So, I am trying to replicate something very smooth and tasty at home without being overly sweet. There are dozens of recipes on the internet from basic tequila/lime juice/ triple sec, to wild concoctions. Do you have a recipe that is better than basic but not too complicated, or exotic, or radically different tasting? Please post it or a link to it.

PS: I already have a bottle of Cointreau and some basic triple sec. Tomorrow, I will pick up a bottle of Tequila Siete Leguas blanco or some similar all Agave, unadulterated tequila. I need to pick up some better lime juice or fresh limes too.
TIA

All margaritas need at least 2 parts Ancho Reyes

I’ll second the Ancho Reyes (red or green)…I thought I was the only one who did that.

Plus:

And this will keep you busy for a while.

Next try using mezcal instead of tequila.
I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

Here’s mine, may be a little too Smokey

3 Del maguey mezcal or Montelobos
2 ancho Reyes
1 orange liqueur
1 blanco tequila(I typically use patron)

2 part cucumber water
1 part lime juice
Squirt of agave
Shake the hell out of it, serve over ice and I use tajin for my rim

You can muddle a ripe avacado in your shaker and it’s pretty awesome as well

I want to try the dry curaçao

I like to keep it simple:

Grand Marnier > Cointreau

If you like a real sweet and flavorful Margarita, try one using almond tequila. Whenever I get a bottle though I only usually get a couple margarita's out of it, as I usually drink the rest of the bottle straight, it's outstanding for sipping.

Grand Marnier and fresh limes are the ticket.

The mix.
A pitcher of Limeade made with just 3-cups of water
De-rind a large orange (or 2) and crush the meat releasing the juice into the limeade mix. Drop the meat in as well.
Add 1-cup cubed pineapple.
Slice a medium size jalapeño and add to mix.
Stir and refrigerate at least 3 but no more than 6-hours.

For the drink use a 16oz glass ( canning jars work great).
Fill with 1/2  (or less) with limeade mix.
The rest of the ingredients are done to taste: so start small and add. I like mine heavy on Tequila.

A GOOD tequila like G4 / el Tesoro / Tequila Ocho etc.
Gran Marnier  (or Cointreau) orange liquor
EJ Brandy ( if you want it extra sweet)
Add a jalapeño slice and some crushed orange meat from the mix.
Add only enough ice to keep cold.

Smoky mezcal
Agave syrup
Orange liqueur (I use one with a brandy base)
Fresh lime juice
Salt on the glass rim, it's been awhile since I made them, but I used a ghost pepper salt that brought a good heat.

Probably not traditional at all, but tasty.

Tagging.

I love the tamarind versions.

This is probably a good starting point, this fellow always makes good stuff

Classic Margarita - Tequila, Cointreau, and Lime ??????

I like Herradura tequila.

Friday I picked up the basic ingredients. This is the starting point, it's what they had at the liquor store for a quick start.

Herradura silver
Triple sec, some low end stuff they had on the shelf
Bottled lime juice.

I've been happy with 3:2:1 ratio, shaken in a cocktail shaker and poured over a cube of ice in a salt rimmed glass

The Herradura is good stuff, the rest is pretty generic. Next I'm going to try some different orange liqueurs, and definitely switch to fresh lime. I also got a lime squisher.
I know I'll never go home.

My partner is a famous west coast bar director for a top 5 restaurant in California. (According to LA Times, #3 according to SF Chronicle)

Tommy’s Margarita

2oz favorite Tequila/Mezcal (she prefers Lalo blanco)
1oz fresh Lime Juice
0.5oz agave syrup

Shake with ice, pour, and enjoy.

The keyword is fresh. Any citrus juice or premix that comes out of a retail bottle is flat and artificial tasting.

That looks like a winner with simple, clean ingredients.  Lalo blanco is great stuff
