MS Teams? How much bandwidth to have good muti-person Conf Calls from home? Upstream and down? Not asking if there is something better, the company uses it, so I have no options. |

MS recommends 4Mbps per user for HD video, it's only 50 Kbps for audio. I live in the boonies and usually just use audio unless there's a real reason for video. In practice the network quality/reliability matters a lot more than bandwidth above a certain minimum speed. |

We've got Xfinity WiFi. Download speeds are 250mb/s, upload speeds are 1/10 of that. My calls run smoothly. They're putting fiber in near me. We're jumping on that as soon as they're ready. 5gb speed both ways. |

I have 117mbps download and 24mbps upload and do great on Teams with 3 people streaming and 2 of them on TikTok while they stream all day while I work. I also use hotel WiFi and my hotspot 2 days a week. Whatever ATT hotspot can do is fine as well. |

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/prepare-network Scroll to the bottom. 4 Mbits/sec is what they recommend for best performance with video. Most connections should be more than adequate. My Google Fiber seems to do fine.

| It's 4mbps like others have said, but what you really need to understand is that even if your internet service is significantly faster than that, you need to have control over all the devices on your network to avoid them saturating the connection with other traffic while you are in a meeting. Something like a gaming PC downloading a big game or game update can easily max out a 1gbps pipe and cause issues with live video/audio while it is doing it. |

Watch out for your phone and other devices syncing files (pictures/videos) to cloud storage, or doing cloud backups then. The good news for upload traffic is you have complete control over what packets leave your router toward the ISP and so it is possible to setup proper QoS to avoid stuff like backups from messing with meetings. Even just using a modern per connection queuing algorithm like cake or fqcodel and setting an appropriate uplink limit can be enough to prevent uplink saturation from being an issue. |

10 down 2 up is enough for most "team" teams calls. Start pushing 30 people with video, and you'll want more downstream. I ran teams calls on Hughes. Latency was a struggle but the calls were fine. That was usually 40/6 with 600+ms latency. Starlink does fine, until you drive under a bridge.  Anything wireline short of ancient dsl or dialup should handle it. Having a decent local audio setup (mic/speakers, headset, ptt foot switch) makes a bigger difference than internet speed. |
