Low Testosterone: What are the options? UPDATE:Testosterone megathread (Page 423 of 443)
|
Anybody using Henry Meds, and are you happy with them? I was going with them but my HCT level was 52.1 so was told I have to get that down first. Two testosterone tests were at 285 (but at 10am) at MyDrNow and the second 295 at 8am (SonoraQuest for Henry Meds). Have the usual symptoms for a few years now, mood changes (crying like a girl at movies or even youtube videos) losing muscle mass, gaining weight (20 pounds) injuries not healing for a long time, low libido, etc. Age 54 btw. I let it slide the past 3-4 years since it also calmed me down a lot as far as aggressiveness. It's actually pretty nice not being ready to fight all the time. However the downsides are now outweighing that so I think it's time to try and pump the t back up a bit. Didn't bother trying the VA since I heard they require test levels to be 240 or below. But I'm going to get a full blood panel including test done by VA, mainly to see if I've gotten my HCT down. Also Henry Meds is charging $129 month, including supplies (syringes) and lab work. One thing I didn't like about them is the video appointments are a week or more out, so it takes a while to get the ball rolling. Guessing they have limited NP's/docs working for them and they're booked out that far. |

Well, I experienced a fun fuckup by the hospital system I’m in. I got married last year, got the wifey and stepson on my insurance at the end of the year, and got us into the local Baylor Scott & White system. I looked into seeing an endocrinologist, and had to call their office, as I wasn’t able to schedule an appointment. They wanted a referral from my PCP, so I asked for one. Got that, and called the endo’s office. This was in March. The earliest appointment they had was in September. Fuck it, I signed up. The date rolls around and the fuckups start. The appointment didn’t show up on my account on the BSW app. I had the date and time on my calendar, but couldn’t find anything in the app, or in email. I set everything up on the phone, but it should all still be associated with my account. So I go to the office, go to check in… and the first WTF moment. Apparently the doctor I was supposed to see left their job there in July. I never received a call, email or letter. WTF? So the receptionist says to wait for a bit, someone will come talk to me about it. A few minutes later, a woman asks me to come to the back. She’s not a doctor, more like an admin assistant or something. She repeated that the doctor left in July and shows me the letter I should have gotten. Nope, didn’t get it. I could also see she had a printout with my information on it and the appointment. And the reason I was requesting to see an endocrinologist. Then the next major fuckup. This endocrinology group doesn’t treat testosterone related issues! WHAT THE FUCK. COULDN’T THEY HAVE TOLD ME THIS ON THE PHONE IN MARCH WHEN I TOLD THEM WHY I WANTED TO SEE A FUCKING ENDOCRINOLOGIST?? What the fucking ass? I sent a message to my PCP asking if there was a group that treats testosterone related issues, and pretty much got “not really, so sorry”. This is pretty fucking disappointing since I waited for six fucking months to have the appointment that wasn’t going to happen anyway. Fuck. So I think I’m going to have to look for something I can do out-of-pocket… so I’ll start reviewing this thread again. The wife found something called “biote” that apparently does HRT using pellets implanted under the skin. I looked it up and it looks interesting, but has some issues - it’s expensive, and it can’t be tuned on a weekly or monthly basis…. So I don’t think I would consider that. Anyway. If anyone has pointers from here, I need to see if I can find some way to work on this shit. My libido is still in the gutter and it’s affecting my marriage. |

I have so been down that road with endo's with myself and my kids. I am really starting to despise them as a group as a whole with their office staff right up there on the list of worst customer service ever. The Pediatric ones are even worse if you can imagine that, I've got stories to tell that would make your blood boil with one I'm considering reporting to the state medical board for outright incompetence. That said you need to look around for anti aging docs, hormone replacement clinics or even endos that are cash and carry. Most of the ones I've dealt with are much more flexible and solutions oriented vs numbers driven. The pellets are good and bad. My wife uses them and they keep her pretty level, and I think they work better for her than injections did due to less unwanted side effects for a woman. That said she's had issues lately with them working their way back out and they're pricey. IMHO the docs that do only pellets are in it for the money and not interested and what's best for you. The ones that offer them as an option are better, but some good docs don't do pellets because they don't want to deal with the in office procedure. I'll shoot you an IM. |

I’ve also noticed my testicles are quite a bit smaller than maybe 5-10 years ago. I have been thinking I should see a urologist anyway. From time to time, I do have urination issues. Not serious trouble, but very weak flow. Maybe prostate issues? |

This is from a facebook reel from a body builder by the name of Quinton Pulliam. He is supposedly a “natty” body builder, but in this video he shows his blood lab results. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1ADZ7mfjDb/ I clicked on the comments. Yeah, I know, that was my first mistake. Some poster is saying that a test level of 300 was “normal” or “average” and they questioned Quinton’s 538 level. I could swear that whatever actually published journal article I stumbled across like 15 years ago said that 600 was the average. But I can’t remember what the stan dev was??? And I think for years here in this thread 600 has been the rule of thumb. Would one of you manly men with better google fu happen to have a link to a legit scholarly journal article that says 600 is the mean? TIA |

T level varies by age. Around age 18 it jumps to almost 800 and then declines. Uses age and percentile and people are different so it is wide range by age well. The study shows around 450 is the mean for 50th percentile, ie half above it and half below it. Medical study. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5698798/ ![]() |

Has anyone worked with Ageless Men’s Health? I noticed the sign for one of those when I went to pick up the wife from a shopping trip. It’s only about 2.5 miles from home. I tried looking up reviews and found a few posts on Reddit. One guy had a bad experience, but that might have just been him, and that was years ago. I’m not finding anything about cost or whether or not my particular insurance (BCBS) might cover anything. I’d love to have at least a ballpark of what to expect in that regard. If I can get everything I need for around a Benjamin every month, maybe a bit more, that would be great. Had blood work done recently. Doc has me 200mg every 2 weeks. I told him I'd like to switch to weekly injections. Started at 178.8 before treatment in July to the number below last week. Total Test 981 (which my PCP considers high) Free Test 2.6% Free Test 247.9 Globulin 30 Im assuming weekly injections will keep my test more even and not peak as high as 981, right? |

| Everyone should know that the lab stated ranges for testosterone are based on the "average healthy male", which if you look around are mostly fatties and skinny men. Their T is really low compared to 50 years ago. Do not go by the lab results. Go by how you feel. |

I’m just starting my 4th week of injections. Holy mother of God, I don’t know if I should feel sorry for my wife or if she owes my doc a car. I feel like I’m in my teens again. We were in Hawaii for our daughter’s wedding. We had a lot of free time. Which we mostly spent finding places to sneak off. 3-5 times a day. Not even kidding. We got back home at 630 this morning after a red eye, quickie before we took a nap. Then again when we woke up, and twice more this evening. I’m ready to go again right now but she’s passed out and sore ![]() I can’t believe how much better I already feel |
If you're tired of starting over, why the fuck do you keep quitting?

Maybe he should give the wife a break and hit up that harem he has in his avatar.
