| Looking for recommendations for a cold weather insulated waterproof walking shoe/boot. Need something that will provide plenty of arch support due to walking on cobblestone roads with a possibility of snow on the roads / sidewalks. Heading to Germany, Austria and Prague end of year. |

Oboz Bridger 10” Make sure the size is properly large for thicker socks. Unlike warm weather boots, cold weather footwear needs room for thicker socks. If you use thicker socks without adequate room for them, 2 things happen: 1) the thicker socks get squished, compromising the insulation which relates to the air trapped by them 2) without enough room, the thicker socks will wind up compressing the foot, compromising circulation BTW, since you mentioned cobblestones, ankle support, and the possibility of snow, I HIGHLY recommend something like these, for potential icy conditions (which are a risk, anywhere that snow is). Worth their weight in diamonds and rubies, if they prevent injuries that could mess up your trip, or life. Servus slip-on ice cleats I keep these in my Winter coat pocket. They fold up fairly flat(ish), and I keep them in the thicker ziplock bag they came in. Have encountered icy conditions that I wasn’t expecting, more than once, living here in the snowbelt. No problem. Pull these out, slip them over my footwear. Good to go. I’ve tried MANY brands of slip on cleats over the years (eg. The OG YakTrax with the coil springs, which SUCK. The types with what look like spiky beads. Kahtoola MicroSpikes, which are great on trails/in the outdoors, but NOT in cities). The tungsten carbide studs on rubber, work the best. |
