When I was a teenager, I found an intriguing book in our public library that told the story of a young crewman who helped build the CSS Alabama in England. He helped build the ship, and it tells the story of him helping build the ship. Then it tells the story from his perspective of joining the crew, and engaging in action on American ships on behalf of the Confederacy. And the book ends with the young man leaving the ship, and watching the final battle from the shores of France because the Captain wanted everyone off the ship who wasn't a full-blown Confederate. I am thinking it was historical fiction. Maybe it was non fiction. It doesn't celebrate the Confederacy per se, it tells the story from the eyes of a young Brit. It is just a good adventure story, with some elements of action and some good history. If anyone knows what book that is, I would appreciate it. My kid is about the age I read it, and want to read it with him/to him. Thanks, |
