Like the title says. What I am specifically looking for is a good, high rye budget rye whiskey. Preferably something with a bit of proof to it, at least 90 to 100 proof, and especially something that won't do serious damage to the budget. It will be for making myself some old fashioneds. Thank for any and all suggestions. |

Before I retired, I took up the Whiskey and Smoke for the last ~5 year. Wild Turkey Rye, i.e, Dirty Bird Whistle Pig Rye(s) Knob Creek Rye And a carton of unfiltered camels Once I retired, I just lost the desire without thinking or trying to. I quit drinking and smoking by about 4 month after I retired. Nothing against it but I just lost the desire and enjoyment. I see now it was how I was dealing with the bullshit stress - admittedly not a good way. Hell, I enjoyed the Whiskey and Smoke but not no more. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

I just find that most brandies are rather bland and weak. I did find one that I like, but don't like paying $50 per bottle of Copper & Kings Butchertown Brandy. It is 125 proof, but I have to travel about an hour away to get it. |

Thanks for all the replies. I think I've tried most of the ones that were suggested, but for some it is the cost. I really don't want to keep spending $50 for a bottle to make an old fashioned with. (Knob Creek store pick and Rare Breed Rye) For others it is the fact that I need to travel about an hour to get that one. Old Forester 100 Rye) Some I don't recall having seen. (Old Overholt 114) My favorite has been Wild Turkey 101 Rye, but it has gone up and I'm trying to keep the budget low. Again, Thank You for all the replies and I will have to take a closer look the next time I go to the store. |

| I like Bulliet Rye for a rye whiskey. It’s 90 proof and the mash bill is 95%rye and 5% malted barley. Makes a great mixer and drinks straight just fine. Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is next on my list. If it’s anything like the regular Rare Breed, I may be in trouble. |

I'd have to say it's damn good for the price, and makes great old fashioneds. Don't care for the Bourbon at all, but the Rye is well worth having a bottle on hand. |

I have also retired, and when the stress finally was pried loose from my mind, my BP went down. It varies how much, but sometimes it is 30mmHg. Jerk store manager (who was a massive LIAR) screwed everyone by cutting hours just so he could get a bigger bonus. Problem was that he pissed off the customers too. So I hope he made plenty on those bonuses because he got the axe after 6 months. Unfortunately it was 2 weeks after I quit. Bummer. (And after 8 people had quit in those 6 months) I'm much happier now, and I will have an old fashioned at the end of the day, and just sit and sip. Definitely not budget, and I normally NEVER drink rye's. But, the absolute most amazing thing to ever grace my taste buds, is High West- midwinter night's dram, specifically the recent act 12 scene 7. im a bourbon guy, and it literally smoked Weller 107 & 12 yr, old forester 1924 & 1920, Elmer t Lee, pappy 23, Craig toasted, Blantons gold, and Taylor single barrel when all compared in the same night. Just an amazingly complex and smooth flavor profile, with a bit of sweetness, no overly high proof burn, just an amazing drink with a ton of different flavors happening all throughout the tasting experience. |
