It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of long time forum member Old_Fashioned. OF was a long time and contributing member to this site, which he introduced me to in 2008. I'm sure you heard a lot from him in prepping threads, 1911 and AR15 discussions, bourbon discussions, and COVID madness. OF was definitely not a 13er. He was really into the Walking Dead and ended up writing 2 zombie books called Slow Burn. He posted book progress on this site as he wrote it and welcomed feedback and suggestions. I'm not sure if he ever said it here but he was a highly respected police Sergeant. One of the nicest people you would ever meet and always went out of his way to help others. A person of high integrity and a great friend. He got numerous co workers started with basic prepping and built numerous AR15s for others. He also loved shooting and taught classes helping others get their CCL. Tragically he suddenly passed in a motor vehicle accident on Friday afternoon, leaving behind a wife, young son and two stepdaughters. I would post his Avatar but I'm having trouble finding it using search. I know he enjoyed this site and would want people he frequently conversed with here to know. ETA avatar. Striker  |

I hate hearing news like this, but I greatly appreciate that you shared it with us OP. Many of us may pass unnoticed, and it's good to know that there are some here who will share the sadness with a community that cares about its members. Prayers for his family. |

Interestingly, automobiles are soooo much safer today vs. even 25 years ago, let alone the '80s. It's actually on the rare side for there to be fatalities these days in auto wrecks, whereas back in the '80s when I was a newbie on the department, we'd respond to a fatal seemingly once a month. Now we might have one once a year, if that. Sorry to hear about Old_Fashioned's passing. |
