So, trying to do a seal on a MOS plate for a coworker who is leaving… but been having issues.

I looked at another thread where the settings were given to do metal, which the text works great. But the logo (DHS emblem) comes out rough. Only has one screen that gives a few settings… which I tried to make it more crisp… but here is the result.

Unsure if it is due to being so small, or which I’m leaning towards… being too powerful. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a laser guy, but that looks like the rough surface showing through.  If so, I'd think about lasing the entire logo area down just enough to make it smooth, THEN do your regular engraving.

Ignore the ai voice I used but this applies to all fiber lasers basically though mine is 100w. It will get you dialed in.

A laser is not like a blade - It reduces evenly from each point of the surface instead of shaving off the high points.

Thanks. I appreciate that…

Question, I have a 50w laser. Leave the setting alone or reduce the output by half?

No, it will be fine as is, you can test on a similar material. I buy welding coupons on amazon cheap and use that, 6061 and steel. That is what I used to dial them all in, just start with less passes then work your way up and make sure the focal distance is good.

Just did this one: https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/Sharing-a-Custom-Machined-and-Laser-Engraved-Glock-Slides-Damascus-and-Scroll-Work-/49-563299/

Been putting it off to do this, finally get time… but it won’t let me do individual passes with the seal.

Under Mode, it says image… doesn’t allow me to do the different passes like text. Is it due to importing a JPG to use as the template?
