Laser/Radar jammer vs just paying the ticket (Page 2 of 3)

When you appear in court to pay your ticket (or earlier if you call the DA's Office in advance) ask the ADA if they will amend it to a conviction of a non-moving violation and offer to pay the original amount (plus court costs) in full immediately. It may be more than the original violation amount, but it's worth it to keep your insurance company from seeing a moving violation. If you cannot afford to pay it immediately, ask if they'll setup a payment plan for you. |

You Earned this; do better than that, dumbass. Today, people drive worse. A LOT worse in my A/O. Red lights mean nothing. Speed limits? Hah! Maybe it was because of cops like me trying to do the right thing, maybe it's because of an excess of dumbass drivers. LEARN from this and do better. Oh. and BTW; some States have laws against having radar/lidar detectors or jammers. Fines are kinda on the stiff side for getting caught with one. God Bless |

Do that in Mississippi or Florida and you’re gonna be leaving in the back of a patrol car. |

I run a Valentine One radar and laser detector and it has saved me many times. I do not often go very far above the limit, though. Some radar detectors offer a remote display to make them harder for LEOs to spot. If they laser a car in front of you, your detector may pick that up, allowing you to check your speed before it is too late. |

You can't get insurance anymore. State Farm dropped me last year for a windshield claim....literally said I'm not economically viable with my nice cars. Just refused to offer me services the next month. I can't have any tickets or claims for years before I can try and get normal insurance again. |
OP apparently has not learned his lesson and will likely continue the same behavior, hoping that a jammer will prevent another ticket. This incident should have been a wake up call that doing stupid stuff like this endangered himself and other drivers. But it hasn't. Sadly OP might find himself in the news for going over 100 again and loosing control due to whatever reason and he injured or killed another motorist and their passengers, all while he walked away without a scratch.

There must not be deer in OP's state. Sorry but you couldn't pay me to go over 100 without a shell around my body. This is why cagers hate bikers. |

God Bless Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, huh? I'm not asking if I should get a laser detector (perfectly legal in my state BTW), I'm asking why bother when the penalty is so reasonable? He cut me a break because I pulled over; I'm sure he was under no illusions about my future driving endeavors (otherwise, I'm sure he would have told me to slow down, which he did not do). He and I both knew that I could have run if I had wanted to; there's an exit less than a mile from where he was posted, and I could have made it in under 20 seconds and been on back roads long before he got turned around and up to speed. Far as I could tell, I showed him respect by not making things difficult, and he reciprocated by not taking me to jail. It sucks that you live in a state full of uptight assholes, but (for now) most of Louisiana isn't that way. |

If 12 months go by without them catching it, then yeah, you're in the clear. Otherwise, I'd be peppering my Angus. If you're a serial speeder who can't keep it in their pants, and doesn't have a clean record (sounds like you took the conviction for 99/75), it might be worth it. Laser jammers do work, but they have to be tuned/tweaked to your vehicle. And depending on what you drive, more than one emitter may be needed. Just blindly installing an emitter on the front of your car is probably a waste of time and money. I usually don't speed locally, only when I'm on long road trips. The few times I've been stopped, a clean record/saying I have a clean record/saying I drive a company car, is usually enough for a warning or at worst an impeding ticket which is zero points and nothing on my record. If you already have speeding conviction(s), your chances for mercy are significantly lower. |

If you tell us what stretch of road you were on we can decide if you were reckless. Some stretches of road are pretty fast, like between LA and Vegas. Years ago was piled up behind a left lane loafer with a line of cars behind me. Guy blocking me finally got out of the way and I moved over for the cars behind me. He was going 95 |

It seems that once you get to the northern half of the country, cops have a stick up their ass and you need to stick closer to the speed limit. |
