Had the left replaced in November and it went perfectly. Right was replaced first of March and recovery has been a lot slower with this one. Crazy muscle tightness and more effusion/swelling. Working out in PT, just coming along much more slowly...anyway..

Haven't been able to play in about 7 years and I'm dying to get back. I'm not even going to think about it until I trust both knees completely. I'm thinking late summer/early fall I'll start making full swings, or attempting them, at least.

So, if you've had one or both done, tell me your tales...

@ 47 had the left knee replaced I was walking 18 in 8 months.  That was after hitting the range at 6 months taking it easy and getting my swing and flexibility back. Not to mention the left leg and knee (assuming you are right-handed) takes a lot of the motion/weight shift when swinging.

All that said I live in the PNW and the knee was replaced in August, so I had the winter to deal with as well.     Hell, just go out in the yard and swing easy.

I had my right (trail) knee replaced this last August. I played 9 holes 6 weeks after surgery and shot -1 for 18 a week after that.

I think I walked 18 at about 11 weeks. It still gets pretty sore/tight sometimes, especially if I walk 2 days in a row. Ice and stretching get it feeling better pretty quickly.

The timeline would’ve definitely been longer if it was my front knee. I’m also only 43, busted my ass doing PT, and kind of an idiot.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try and ease back into hitting balls over the course of the summer and hope to play some by fall. Weather typically allows for playing well into Oct/Nov in these parts most years.

I had ACL reconstruction on my lead leg (left) 2 years ago. I was chipping and putting with just an arms only type stroke about 6 weeks after. Within about 3 months I was playing iron shots and just following my friends playing from the forward tees. I think at about 4-5 months I was playing fully however it took me about 9 months before I was swinging my long clubs hard again and back up to full swing speed with full confidence in my knee.

Lots of PT and gym time to strengthen my leg muscles.

UPDATE:  So, I finally got back on the course this past Saturday in a 4-man scramble. Been hitting range balls now and then for the last month, but this was the first actual round in 8 years. We shot a no-shenanigans 6-under 66, which I was pretty happy with. I was able to contribute on almost every hole. No ringers, just me and a buddy and his two boys. Knees held up fine. Right knee still cranky, but still getting better. Only 6 months out of surgery on that one.

Driver and 3wd off the tee were pretty good, short game was pretty OK, putting was pretty good. I've lost 20 yards with the driver and 10-12 with the irons. Pretty sure that since my swing is nowhere near what it was before, I'm now over-shafted.

And so it begins. Again.

Nice. I still get the occasional feeling of instability, but this was the other day 13 months after surgery.
