Agree, this is a great, secluded spot for us to talk about some stuff that ordinarily would garner some raised eyebrows or outright derision. Thanks for keeping it a (ohhh boy do I hate this term  ) safe space to talk about some admittedly nutty concepts and experiences!

While I heartily agree with slappomatt in general principle, I think you're doing a fine job of keeping threads on track. Censorship sucks. Staying on-topic is a different matter, especially on a privately-maintained board with a focus on specific topics. It's fine to wander off down a fun and interesting tangent, it's another thing entirely to drag politics and personal feels into what's supposed to be intelligent discussion. I've been guilty of such. There are other venues for it. In short, moderation and staying on-topic good, outright censorship bad. Fire bad! I've never felt like we've gone beyond the first two in that sentence here, even when I'm the target.

Sort of, but from the "wrong end" where people can decide what forums to show on their active topics but forums can't decide not to be seen globally active topics. I think it's good for the most part as it is, but it's the certain fraction of GD that causes well over half the problems forum wide, their den is GD and even then under 10% of the members making >50% of the traffic that gives people headaches. Then some decided banning the complainers or calling out the people sliding threads was the way to go and that made it go more divergent so here we are. We're salvageable and running smooth right now. I'm just dreading the next election season, which I sadly realize is going to be starting about this time next year, they have pushed a 8 month every 4 year election season (pre-Obama) into a every month all the time activist thing and that's not something that this forum or GD or any other part caused, it was just not slapped down, or handled in sub optimal ways and that's spilled milk and not my problem/issue/zoo so I'll echo the rest of you as explaining it better. Staying on topic, and explaining a position is far more important than "wrong words/wrong think". As long as you can justify your position, you have the ability to do so. If you only come to say "bullshit" or "psyop" or any other < 5 word post and not come back, that's where the ball gets rolling on more coming in and much editing required as they nearly always wait half a year to return thinking we've forgotten. | The only thing I cannot deal with is constant back and forth bickering. I refuse to read it and it just clogs a thread and usually the most important threads that are truly newsworthy to the point you can’t find the actual news in the thread. I’m sure I don’t have to spell out how many threads that happens to in GD. Shit virtually all of them that go more than 2 pages. |
