As he turns to make his way back into the house he hears very clearly something which ordinarily might be cause for alarm but is so out of place here that he said it literally made the hair on his next stand up. It was the sound of a dog's growl. They did not own a dog. Needless to say, there was no dog in the garage. He had a dream not long after that of being menaced by a large black dog tied to a chain in his backyard. He found out some time after that, from a neighbor,'that the homeowner before him had owned such a dog and had always kept the poor beast chained. The homeowner tied the dog up in a storage room in the garage once and basically left the dog to starve which it did. That storage room in the garage was in a corner behind some minor detritus. My buddy's curiosity got the best of him and he looked in that room. He said there were claw marks all over the walls and it was obvious the starving, frightened animal had frantically tried to escape at one point during it's captivity. When I first heard the story, I was chilled to the bone. Retelling it now, it comes across as more sad than anything. The one that sends a chill up my spine though happened last year while I was still doing clinicals. We received a call to a nursing home for a unresponsive 87 year old woman. When we picked her up it was obvious she was not long for this world. She coded three times on us before we got her to the ER. What freaked me out though was when she became responsive briefly during transport. I was starting an IV and she just sprang to life, grabbed my arm with a strength unholy for a frail old woman, looked me square in the eye and in a raspy, guttural way quietly screamed my name. The look in her eyes was unlike anything I had seen before or since. It felt like she was starring straight into my soul. What is so disturbing about that is that during no point had I introduced myself to her as she was unresponsive. Also being a dumb student I had forgotten my ID badge that day as well. I had never worked her before as a patient, nor meet her that I can recall in any capacity. Could be she mistook me for somebody else by the same name but it sure seemed meant for me. She died less than an hour after admission. To this day I still remember everything about that call like it just happened and it makes my blood run cold to remember her face and the way she called to me. Sometimes I close my eyes and still see that face. lol when you have a code you shouldn't assume they can't hear you. in EMT basic I was taught that you must watch what you say because when the patient comes back to they can at times recite what you said while they were out. my instructor once said "I don't think this ones going to make it" when a patient coded on her and when she saw him months later after he made a full recovery he told her he made it and he had heard what she said. Nope. At no point did anybody say my name during the call nor did I make any attempt to communicate with her. |

My hometown (Antioch California) has a little place in the boonies called "Gravity Hill".
It's a little farm road out in the middle of nowhere, but it isn't actually a hill. It's just a flat stretch of road. But if you park your car to the starting line (helpfully marked with a shot of spraypaint), and put your car in neutral, the car will accelerate, all on it's own, as if you were coasting down a hill. It's really bizarre.
My theory is that it's a place with a wonky gravitational field, like the "Mystery Spot". But when you take somebody out there, a ghost story is pretty much mandatory. i took a girl out there once on a disastrous date, and I was talking to her about the legends, and she claimed that she didn't belive in ghosts. But when I got to the part about it bieng indain spirtits pushing the car off thier sacred lands, she flipped the fuck out. Apparently she DID believe in indian spirits.

My "uncle" had a trailer he lived on near the front of the property and that's where family stayed when we came up to visit. The house was built forever and a half ago, had no electricity or running water. There was a manual water pump thing and buckets outside and a wood burning stove if you got cold. They used candles for light. (Not kidding) Everytime I would visit you could see my great grandfathers "ghost" on the porch in his rocking chair outside, just rocking. My great grandmother when she was alive would sit in the other chair and talk to him. If you approached the house my great grandfathers "ghost" would calmly stand up and go inside. Search the house and there is no one in there. If we asked my great grandmother about it she would just smile and talk about when they were young. When she passed my mom went up there to visit and said that now they both rock out on the porch. She said if you walk up there they get up and go inside still. When we visited my dad always dared me to spend a night in the house....never even tried. Now that I'm older I would kill to spend a night there. 3 (maybe 4) years ago my uncle demolished the house and started building a new house on the spot. He's crazy so I don't trust much he says but apparently it's noticeably cooler (10 degree difference) on the spot where the house was. I haven't been back since I was 11 but to this day I remember everything I saw vividly. So up until 4 years ago you could have gotten incontrovertable evidence of paranormal activity on video and it just slipped your mind? That's a shame. Some stuff is best kept personal. If it were me I would just know it as a special family connection, not something to be exploited. |

When I got out of the Marines a couple years ago, I met up with an old highschool friend I hadn't seen in ages. We went out for drinks and she was asking me what iraq was like and such, and I asked her what college was like in Orange County. She tells me the normal stuff and then tells me this story and to this day it still kinda freaks me out to think about.
She went to Chapman and up until this incident she used to babysit for a family friend down there. Younger couple, but affluent. Nice neighborhood and younger kids. I remember her saying they were 2 and 4 at the time, but I might be off a tad. On the night in question my friend was babysitting as usual and put them to bed around 9pm and went downstairs to watch TV and study. The parents were also art collectors and had a lot of odd pieces around, namely one of those lifesize clown statues that looks real-ish sitting in a kids chair. She said she was weirded out by it but didnt think much of it, as rich people buy weird shit. But the longer she sat there the more of an odd feeling it gave her, so being much more brave than I, went and took a look at it. It was apparently very realistic, and she stared at it for a while but it still freaked her out, so she called the mother and asked if she could move the clown statue into another room, or closet preferably. The mother sounded confused for a moment then very alarmed and told my friend to get the kids and get across the street to the neighbors house, and that they were coming back immediately. So she woke the kids and got them out of the house to the neighbors, confused. Soon after police cars showed up and started searching around the house. The parents arrived soon after and came to the neighbors house and gave my friend an explanation. Apparently the older kid had been coming to breakfast every couple mornings for the past couple weeks saying that a clown had come to visit him again. They just thought it was imagination or dreams and such and didn't think much of it. Until my friend called and the mother realized that they don't own a clown statue. Soon after the police came back and reported that they had arrested a man in a clown outfit several blocks away. He turned out to be a mental patient that had escaped from a hospital a ways away. A search of the house showed that he was living in the houses basement that was under renovation and the family rarely used. The part that bothered me the most, was that she stared at the fucking thing and he didn't blink or move. I would have shit bricks after hearing that. |

Closed down a couple of years ago, was recently used as a set for a "Humans vs Zombies" flick coming out this year. Worked nights there as an ER tech for a couple of years after EMT school - this would have been in the early 90's. There were always tales about the top floor, which had once been the Labor/Delivery ward (I was actually one of the last kids born there, in 1975, before they stopped doing L&D). Older nurses wouldn't go up alone and some would swear to hear crying babies and other phenomenon at night - the ward hadn't seen a birth in over 20 years at the time, and only housed daytime surgery and lab (I always figured this was just another "urban legend" type of story that eventually springs up around any facility over time) . This becomes important in the last part of my story... Anyhow, at the time the ER was only manned at night by a tech (me) and the Charge Nurse for the floor would come to the ER when a patient presented. Being an empty facility (separated by a loooong hallway from the inhabited areas), and being alone in the area that had seen more deaths than I could count brought it's own creep factor. The only REALLY significant event I personally witnessed is fairly minor, but freaked us out pretty good. One cold winter's night, the ER Nurse was finishing up some charting after a patient had left. The nurse's station was separated from my location by only about 20 feet, and she could monitor anyone coming into the ER from there. I thought I'd take the opportunity to stretch my legs (a chance I only got if a nurse was present to monitor the ER Entrance) and grab a soda from the vending machine, down near the med/surg floor. I poked my head in and asked if she wanted anything then headed out for the snacks. I got a little caught up in whatever was playing on the TV in the lounge area and loitered around for maybe 5 minutes. When I strolled back into her spot (from the west hallway), her eyes got a little big and she looked concerned... She asked where I just came from, and I told her the breakroom. She thought I had already been back as she heard someone go into the bathroom (which was just east of her spot). No problem, someone probably entered the ER and stepped into the restroom with the entry unmanned, it happens... The restroom was a single entry "one-holer" - just a door into a small, 3x3 or so room with a sink and toilet. I stood outside the door for a few seconds, preparing to knock and make sure that no one was needing any sort of assistance - it WAS an ER after all... We heard the faucet handles squeak and water running, a little shuffling - typical bathroom noise. After maybe 30 seconds of silence, i decided to knock, again just making sure that someone hadn't wandered in and passed out. I knocked once and asked if they needed help, only answer was the toilet flushing. Waited a few more seconds and knocked again - nothing... By now, I'm getting a little concerned for the welfare of the apparent deaf/mute in the shitter. The nurse ducked back into her station to retrieve the screwdriver we used as a "key" - less than 10 foot away and only out of sight for MAYBE 3 seconds. I knocked once more and then popped the lock. Room was COMPLETELY empty. Light was on (which was normally off, the door stood open until occupied) and drops of water were still beaded up on the porcelain sink. The toilet was finishing refilling, water still running into the bowl, and shut off as we stood there. There was absolutely NO alternative exit from the room. I wanted to believe it was just a freak plumbing episode, but we so clearly heard the squeaky faucet knobs being turned, SQUEAK ON - RUNNING WATER - SQUEAK OFF. Even turned the knobs myself to replicate the sound.... Segue to a few weeks later. Same nurse and myself on duty. I mentioned earlier that the nurses HATED going upstairs at night. Unfortunately, lab slips had to be time-stamped at 4 AM. One of our local officers made it a point to stop by each morning, bringing us snacks from the local stop-and-rob then escorting the charge nurse upstairs for the 5 minutes or so it would take to stamp the slips. If an officer was unavailable, a second nurse from the floor would go (But NEVER the older nurses - they refused and cited the crying babies/self-rolling stretchers/slamming doors/etc). One of the officers had even related a story to me of opening the lab door for one of the nurses and having it slammed FORCEFULLY back into him. Suspecting a break-in, he forced the door and found the room empty that night as well... Anyhow, the NIQ (Nurse in Question) on this particular night had been giving me some grief after the bathroom incident, trying to sneak into the area and toss objects/slam doors/flicker lights - whatever she could do to spook me. I decided on revenge. I called Officer Friendly and told him that he should be "busy" come 4 A.M., but to park his patrol car at the back entrance and be ready to help me with my plan... When the hour arrived, the NIQ strolls up to my desk, asking if I'd seen her cop escort. I feigned a phone call to the dispatcher and told her that he was busy. No problem, she'd get a nurse to accompany her. Once her "escort" arrived, they headed for the elevators - obviously a little uneasy. Perfect. I called my accomplice inside and showed him my evil plan. I had taken the spare ambulance stretcher and made a "body" on it. Pillows where the chest would be, an inflated glove to form the head. Rolled up blankets made the legs and a manila file folder tee-pee'd for feet. With a sheet draped over it, it bore a striking resemblance to a covered corpse. The second floor had three exits - a fire exit on the FAAAAAAR end of the spooky hallway, and the elevator itself, which was adjacent to the second fire exit door. We gave them sufficient time to enter the lab, and then called the elevator back down. Once we had rolled our "corpse" into the elevator, we sent it back up and made a dash for the fire exit door it faced, standing in the stairwell and holding it tightly closed. In no time at all we hear them exit the lab, talking nervously like women do with they're a little scared but under control. I heard them push the "down" button, and heard the elevator doors slide open - and then all hell broke loose... Coffee cups crashed, two women screamed with the voices of 20, one bounced off the wall, while the other tried desperately (and in vain) to open the fire door to escape. After a few seconds, we opened the door for them, howling with laughter. They were nearly in tears, 2 dozen lab slips were scattered across the hallway, coffee was dripping from the ceiling. But, she NEVER fucked with me again... Our city is hosting this Halloween's Haunted House in the old hospital building this year. I hope to get some quality time on that second floor... Man, first story is chilling. The second one is funny as Hell. That's crazy though. Like my story, there just isn't any real explanation for what happened. We live in a world where we know damn near everything or we can get it instantly but some things just don't add up and it terrifies us... Absolutely... If you're IN East Texas, and anywhere near Pittsburg, that's where the old hospital is... I'm hoping the Haunted House there will be a good one - it's never been used as such before. Swing by and we'll do some spook hunting... |

Ok, here's one... My wife (at the time leo) and I (still leo) had bought a house in South St. Louis. If you know the area, its full of blue collar german style brick bungalow houses. The house we had was 80 years old when we purchased it. I am not a "ghost person". Sorry, don't buy it. My wife and I would hear things, see shadow's, etc. On Mother's Day 2001 (we had just been married 5 months prior) we took a walk around the neighborhood. I decided to tell my wife some things that had happened while she was at work. The first was one night while I was cooking dinner; we had louvered doors on the kitchen. I was making my wife's favorite dinner when I turned and out of the corner of my eye I noticed boots under the doors. I said "Hey, you are home early" as my wife's duty uniform included clarinoes that sort of look like boots. When I walked over to the door, nobody there. I figure time to lay off the booze. Next was one night when she was working afternoon's. Shift ends at 10:30 plus a 20 minute car ride when she didn't get the end of the shift call. At 10:10, I see a person in the doorway of our bedroom, again wearing what appears to be boots but a dress. I think "WTF" and turn and for an instant swear I see an old woman. Again, I'm not a ghost person and I think to this day that I'm just nutty. So, here we are, my wife and I walking when I tell her these stories. She says "thank God, I thought I was loosing my mind". She tells me of feeling what she describes as a cat walking across the bed when I'm working midnights. We both look at each other full of WTF. Next morning we are laying in bed, cuddling and so forth as its a day off for both of us. We both see, at the same time what I can only describe as an absence of light appear in the middle of our room, about the size of a volly ball that proceeds to bounce across the room. I am out of bed and moving shit f#*king quick and say time to go. Ok, stupid story except for what happens 4 months later. My wife is pregnant, and I'm working a Saturday as a newly frocked Sergeant. I get a call from my wife to "get home F*#K'ing NOW". I work 5 minutes from my home, and I'm there in 2. I hit the door and yell for my wife who at first doesn't answer. I yell again and she answers in what I interpret to be distress. F' it, I fly in to the back bedroom to find her going through paperwork. WHAT THE HELL?!?!?! She informs me that while doing the laundry, a pair of my socks fell into the air exchange on the floor. We had removed a vent to re-finish the floor for our soon to be born son. In the air vent was a large folder with a Will, original title to the house, and some personal papers and 3 envelopes. My wife was so excited that in one of the envelopes was $500 in cash. I asked her what was in the other two envelopes that were 3 inches thick. "I don't know, who cares we have her last will and testiment isn't that cool and all that?" Yeah, whatever. I open the first envelope to a stack one inch thick with $20 dollar bills. The second envelope was the same. I start counting and hit $3,420.00. I am literally shitting my pants. WOO F'n WHOOO. Then I get a radio call and have to leave. I tell my wife to finish counting all the envelopes and I'll be home. I get a call later from my wife saying "You jackwagon, you miss-counted the fifties...". In total, there was over $7,000 in cash. I contacted my relief and told him what was up. He came in early so I could contact our family attorney and see what I needed to do. Good news; finding cash in your house is like finding hardwood floors under your carpet. No taxes as it's part of the house. Our attorney was laughing as I told him I wanted a legal opinion in writing to take to my tax person, who also laughed. Here's a weird part; the last will and testiment stated the former owner of the house wanted a portion of her savings to go to the animal shelter as she loved cats. No problem; I wanted good JuJu so we donated to a no-kill shelter and used the rest of the money to update the house. A 90 year old woman who lived in the neighborhood who serves as our unofficial historian said the original homeowner never had children with her husband and would have approved of how we spent the funds. Ever since then, we have had no more incidents.... FWIW, this can be confirmed by several LEO in STL who know me and are either with my agency or know me. Some look like flat land, and some actually look like an incline (cars appear to go uphill). All of them that have been actually surveyed show that they are really declines. It is a neat optical illusion, but illusion nonetheless. I bet that if you were to check the one in Antioch, it, too, would prove to be a decline. Much more mundane than a gravity well or whatever. ![]() Yeah, I remember one like that in Central Florida. |

For the longest time I had a grey longhaired cat named Rascal who was probably the most nonchalant cat I ever had. Nothing fazed him, no dogs, definitely no other cats. His typical response to an animal threat would be to simply walk right up to the other animal, and while the other animal would hiss or growl or snarl he would plop down right there, stick his rear leg in the air and start licking his balls. Now keep in mind he wasn't stupid - if the other animal attacked he was always quick to unhinged, strike quick, and do that miraculous backward leap onto a fence or window ledge that some cats can do. But most of the antagonists in question would take the hint and live to bleed another day. A few months after he passed, I was asleep and found myself in one of those indescribable nightmares - those awful dreams where regardless of the content of the dream there appears an indiscernable and overwhelming evil force up to no good. Usually in these types of nightmares I do what I've always done as a kid and simply call the name of Jesus while in the dream (hey, it has ALWAYS worked - haters gonna hate). In this particular dream I remembered thinking to myself that I better call on the name of Jesus, and right at that moment who comes strutting into the dreamscape but my ol' cat Rascal. He walks right to within inches of that evil force that surrounded me, plops down, lifts his leg, and starts licking his balls. I start laughing at his hutzpaw, and in that instant I could feel the evil force slink away in shame. I walk over to pick him, and as I lift him up I started to feel his purring. I also woke up at that moment, but I could swear I could still feel his purrs against my chest for a few more fleeting moments. It took me a few more minutes of awareness before I realized that my sheets were drenched in a cold sweat. I just thought it was kinda cool that the Good Lord would let my old cat run interference for Him on that occassion. |

My only story revolves around my great-grandparents house as they were one of the first to move to their town in California and owned a couple of acres which they sold and became a neighborhood. Apparently there was a indian village not too far from the house in prior history and my aunt as a kid had an "indian" friend whom she talked to frequently that no one else saw. Fast forward several years and my great-grandmother passes away in the house in the early 90s in her sleep. House is vacated for 10 years and my aunt, after a nasty divorce, decides to move in because my grandparents still own it. She renovates and just after adding hardwoods she told me this story: She had just put her only son to bed (7-8 years old) and was reading in bed when she heard footsteps in the hallway. She heard the nightlight click off and then several seconds later back on again. She checks on her kid and he is asleep in the same position he was in when she tucked him in. Checks all over the house, nothing. Couple of months later she is at a office party and a medium/psysic lady comes up to her and tells her that she shouldn't be afraid and that her family is looking our for her. Proceeds to tell exactly in detail the layout of her house and describes my dad pretty well and says the man is sleeping on her couch. Backstory: my dad (aunt's brother) was very close to my aunt growing up and accidentally O.D.'d on cocaine right after I was born. fast forward a bit and one of the guys that does landscaping at her house said in passing that he saw a guy briefly in the house and thought it was strange. No one was home, she has an alarm system on the house. about a month ago my mom visited my aunt (mom has since remarried) and while they are talking in the dining room the light switches off for a couple of seconds and then back on. Its maybe the 2nd time my mom has been in the house and probably 5-6 years since the last time. Aunt says it happens everynow and then and my mom felt it was her former husband saying "hi". Going next summer to spend a couple of days out in CA and see what the real deal is. |

When you know the history of the people who lived near there its even stranger. There was/is a family in that area named Cutterman that has a shady past and are generally thought of as in-breads, thieves and degenerates That dates back to the 1800's. This family made their fortune in timber in this area around 1850 or so and bought huge tracts of land. They were the Rockefellers of the region. Sometime around 1870 they tried to purchase a parcel of land near where our cabin sits but the owners didnt want to sell as the cabins here had been part of the underground rail road. And as every family has a family tree, so did the Cutterman. One enterprising branch of the timber tycoon's family got the big idea that he would get drunk and go burn down all the shacks on the parcel and gain his relative access to the land, as a sort of favor. Well, he set fire to all the shacks, but he got hit over the head for his troubles and was left to burn with the shacks. Long story short: The Tycoon guy got pegged for the shacks burning and the murders. He was accused of conspiracy to commit arson and 22 counts of murder even though he had nothing to do with it nor even had any knowledge and was hanged. The family wealth was seized and they were chased out of most of their homes by Vandals and politicians looking for revenge. At this point the family had lost all faith in Government and could not trust even friends so they pooled their resources and set up a sort of family commune in a Y shaped valley that they had left from a non timber related land deal. This valley didn't even have a road going in to it, so the family built one with picks and shovels that lead to the intersection of the valleys. It was not uncommon to be shot at if you happened to go down this road and very few people ever tried including the local police. It is alleged that these people have been inbreeding for generations and still live up there with no modern amenities save for a few vehicles and some long guns. A local gun shop in the area used to get a visitor from the family every few months who would come in with a gun and demand to chamber the ammo in his gun before paying as he had bought the wrong gauge once and couldnt return it. The last time the were seen en mass was during a 1980's census and the census taker took a guess at 60-70 people as he could get no closer as the stench and sight was too bad. Some of the more normal ones have been said to have bought houses outside of the valley from the proceeds of drug dealing and working for the Mob in some fashion related to contraband. Not many roads up there, but a hell of a lot of trails. To this day no one even speaks the name Cutterman in that area. Their afraid they might insult a family member. . Where at |

Her family of four (mom, dad, brother and her) lived in a two story house with the bedrooms upstairs. Well, one night mom and my uncle were goofing around upatairs like kids do while their parents were downstairs. Being the troublemakers that they were, they opened the door to the parent's dark bedroom and started going in when something caught their eye on the other side of the room. The room was still dark but enough light filtered in from the hallway to reveal some kind of creature sitting on the dresser staring back at them. Both kids saw it at the same time and immediately froze. Both my mom and uncle describe the creature the same way: it looked like one of the flying monkeys from "The Wizard of Oz" minus the wings and the vest. It just sat there, didn't move. The eyes also seemed to glow. Suddenly they both realized that what they saw was a reflection in mirror of the vanity desk across the room. The dresser with the creature on it was actually right next to the doorway where they were standing. That monkey thing was right next to them. Freaked out, both kids ran screaming downstairs and were scared witless. They told their parents what they saw and their dad went upstairs to investigate. He found nothing unusual in the bedroom. My mom and uncle rarely tell this story, especially at night and you're pretty lucky if you get to hear it from them. Gives me the chills. And here's a photo some college friends of mine took several years ago while camping in northwestern Iowa. I'm told this could be some kind of camera distortion but it's still creepy nonetheless. I might have added these to the other thirty-something-page CREEPY thread, I don't remember. My parents used to have prayer meetings in our trailer, before I was born. They would supposedly rebuke lots of spirits, and once during one of these meetings, all the people who were there claimed that they heard a loud BOOM, like somebody took a sledgehammer to the back of their window unit air conditioner. My sister, father, nephew and brother-in-law have all claimed to have seen a "shadow" in my parents' living room. When we were kids, my sister once fell asleep on the floor right in front of the sofa in our living room. In the middle of the night, she wakes up, and says that a bright light jumped into her chest. My parents attest to this, as they rushed downstairs after hearing her scream bloody murder at 3AM. My father has a very similar experience, at roughly the same place. He says that he was awoken in the middle of the night by a light of some kind jump into or onto him. He stood up, almost still asleep, and tried desperately to brush whatever it was off of him. I believe this story especially, because he is quite the skeptic, and wastes no time in trying to debunk any ghostly claims of anyone else. Lastly, my brother-in-law told me, without knowing about any of this, told me a similar story. During a rough patch, my sister, her husband, and their kids moved back in with my parents while I was a teenager. One night, they were sleeping in the middle of the living room floor, and he wakes up (in the middle of the night, presumably) and claims to have seen a large, black, generally evil-looking shadow hovering over in the corner of the room. This one happened to my mother quite recently. She woke up (once again, in the middle of the night. Apparently nothing happens around here during the day) and saw the shadowy outline of a large man standing near the foot of her bed. As soon as she saw it, it kind of darted/disappeared toward the bathroom. She told me, "Immediately, in my mind I kept thinking, 'You weren't supposed to see that.'" I was talking to the same brother-in-law a couple months ago. He told me a story about when he was a kid. He had a pretty crappy childhood, and lived in the ghetto part of town. Not far from this area there is a middle school, but it used to be an elementary school. He claims that he and a bunch of kids were out late at night, playing hide and seek in the playground of this school. He said that he hid behind a bush, right under a window, and looked in. It was the library, and there was a rocking chair in the library, to read stories to the little kindergarteners. When he told me the story, he was getting goosebumps all over his arms, seriously freaked out just telling me. He looked in the window, and there was... something sitting in the rocking chair. He said it was a huge, dark, red-faced creature with long, straight horns, and that it "smiled" at him and beckoned him to come closer. He said ran straight home and didn't talk to any of the other kids. I have no idea whether to believe him, he seemed to be quite in earnest about that one. My sister says that she was awoken once by the voice of a little girl at the foot of her bed, saying "Come play with me". She always did see a lot more things than anyone else. When she was a little girl, she ran through the trailer screaming, claiming that a hand was coming out at her from under our parents' bed. A lot of other things that I can't remember off-hand. Most of the stories I have are from other people, as the things I've experienced were quite minor. I heard someone whisper into my ear once, when nobody else could be around. I've seen the usual things out of the corner of my eye. I've heard weird noises in the walls, and in the ceiling, it sounded like somebody dragging a body across the attic (which isn't big enough to stand up in). When I was a teenager I had a couple times where I was absolutely certain that I was being followed through the woods (armed with my handy-dandy Red Ryder). There is a graveyard back there that my friends and I found once. It was fenced in and in amazingly good shape. Right in the middle of the woods. Some of the graves dated back to the 1820's and a few earlier. Oddly enough, we tried to find it several times afterwards and never could. That woods was always very disorienting. It's less than a mile from my house, but once you're back there, it seems like it's in the middle of the wilderness. I've come downstairs in the middle of the night to find the front door wide open. Also, when I try to go to sleep, sometimes I will hear what sounds very much like people whispering quietly. I'm sure most of this stuff is easily explainable, so I don't put a huge amount of stock in it, but this is the CREEPY thread. I spoke to my sister yesterday, and she clarified the story for me a bit. She says that she was asleep on the floor during the summer (when we first moved in, we didn't have AC, so the living room floor was the coolest place to sleep). She was awoken out of a deep sleep by what she perceived to be a black shadow jumping "not just onto, but kind of into" her, to use her words. She ran screaming into the kitchen, screaming and yelling "Get it off, get it off!" It woke up my parents, who ran downstairs to see what was up. It took her an hour or so to calm down, because she was still half-asleep, and reacted out of instinct. There was also an incident when I was 10 or 11. I used to be afraid of the dark, and so one of my older sisters used to sleep with me. One night, I woke up to the sound of her yelling and crying. Claims somebody or something had tried to climb on top of her. She was half a foot away from me on the bed, but I was asleep and didn't feel anything. She says that she tried to push "it" off, but didn't want to push it on top of me. My father looked all around but didn't seen any reasonable explanation. We were both terrified, and slept in our parents' room the rest of the night. There were a few cases of the TV coming on at night while my parents, who were alone in the house, were asleep. I personally heard a faux, old-fashioned telephone that was screwed to the wall just come off the wall at about 11PM. I heard a loud noise, and went into the kitchen to find the phone in the middle of the floor, at least six feet away from the wall. I took a picture, but it's just a picture of a phone on the floor––not exactly convincing evidence. I know of others (mostly secondhand), including some really great old ghost stories from my dad and grandparents when he was little. I'll talk to them and try to remember some as it gets closer to Hallowe'en. |

No, I'm not posting my name, thank you all of my dead beat relatives... And since "Post Pics or It Didn't Happen..." That is fucking awesome!! Congrats! |

LMAO I think that girl told you a tall tale. She fades in and out of this world, and you don't think that maybe something came back with her? I hope you're a praying man. It knew your name. ![]()
That is the scariest line in this thread. |

Their afraid they might insult a family member. . The thing with the shoe is this. While we were on our 2nd scouting trip, these goons were casing our camp, evidenced first by the dog shit. The shoes make you wonder what was in the bag and why were they trying to scare us off. The Bag on the sign was obviously placed there for us to see and they obviously saw us shooting at it and return the next day to find the trees cut down. What was in the bag we were shooting at? How did it get up in the top of the tree? Was there a body in the bag or were the shoes and bloody sack planted to spook us into thinking we had become some type of accessory in a crime of some sort to keep us quiet about what we saw? All we really knew, and after the fact mind you was that we were being tracked and didnt really even know it. We still go up there, although there was a span of 3 years following the incident that we did not, but we dont go unarmed. . |

I was around 7 years old. I had a great grandpa that lived alone. We would go visit him and do work around his house. He was a really nice guy and treated us very well. Well his condition got worse and he ended up dying in the house alone. After he died my parents bought the house did some re-modeling and we moved in. I always thought it was kind of weird that my great grandpa had died in the house and was apprehensive about living in the house.
My room was upstairs and right next to the room he slept in. One night I was lying in my bed with the lights off getting ready to go to bed when I heard a knock on the closet door... It wasn't coming from anywhere else and it sounded like knuckles hitting the hollow wooden door. I wasn't really scared and didn't pay much attention to it. Then a about a minute later another knock.. At this point I was wondering what was going on. So I thought to myself maybe its grandpa. So out loud I said "if that’s you grandpa Knock once for no and twice for yes". *Knock Knock* I continued asking questions and continued to get responses. Well at some point during this I got freaked out. So I decided I was going to go get my sister and show her what was happening. I tucked my tail jumped the fuck out of bed and blasted into her room. I told her what was happening and brought her into my room and tried to communicate again. Naturally it didn't happen again. Another time I was at home alone and I was taking a bath. I had set the water temp the way I like it and the tub was probably about 3/4 full. Being a kid I liked to see how long I could hold my breath underwater. So I submerged my head and held my breath for as long as possible. While I was submerged I could feel the water around my feet start to get really really warm. So I came up out of the water and noticed that the lever was turned all the way over to the hottest setting and I hadn't touched it. Nothing else has happened in the house after that and I haven't spoken to any family members about it or asked if they noticed anything. Not really scary but kinda freaky. |

The next logical step was that the integrated loop had broken being the weakest point in the construction of the design. When I inspected the crucifix, it was intact in its entirety. I would not hesitate to put that amulet in the category of a power object. My benefactor was never clear with me as to its origins. It's not a "creepy" story of the like that has been presented here, but the implication that such things can exist in our world is somewhat unnerving.

I was raised Catholic, was a voracious reader, and smart as a tack! Satanism - LaVeyan Satanism - appealed to me on an intellectual level it being more like a philosophy than the dogma ridden experience I was subjected to every Sunday morning and Wednesday afternoon. I think there is a risk assumed anytime one plays around with the occult. You're basically experimenting with ways to alter your consciousness without drugs. Looking back, I really feel that is what it amounted to. Even at that, it produced only the most superficial results. The necklace event was significant because it was verified by my friend when I returned the necklace to him the next day. I told him the story and even he had this look on his face like WTF. I mean we're talking about matter passing through matter. I'm sure there is a quantum mechanics equation in a college course book somewhere that proves it's possible but how probable? The question in my mind will always be did it happen as a result of random mathematical consequence in an impersonal universe, or was that event imbued with some mental energy that rendered it able to synthesize from a universe of infinite possibilities one that was normally outside my normal sphere of experience? Belief can be a powerful tool no doubt, but I'm still on the fence on whether phenomena we experience is a purely subjective event or if there really is something else occurring "out there" in "reality." I'm not sure that question will ever be satisfactorily answered. |

This story has always really disturbed me ever since I first read it.It's from the book Unexplained by Jerome Clark. It's a piece of folklore that was told as a true story by a William Johnson.Sources cited are Annie Weston Whitney and Caroline Canfield Bullock "Folk Lore From Maryland" Memoirs of the American Folklore Society and Michael D Winkle "Fabulous Beasts:The Worm Ouroboros" INFO Journal. I'll paraphrase some of it.
..allegedlly occurred in the late 19th century in Somerset County PA.A new school had been built near the crossroads in Jenner township.William Johnson...often attended nighttime functions in the building. These functions were anything but routine because to enter the door you had to step over the long ,scaly body of....something. The something had the body of an immense snake, though neither head or tail was ever visible...It's body was a foot in diameter ,and it had sharp scales on which it was unwise to step.Anybody who did so was instantly hurled to the ground. The "snake" only appeared at the time of the month when there was no moon in the sky.Not everyone could see it,according to Johnson, but even those who couldn't would be thrown to the ground if they stepped on it..... The original owner became so frightened that he sold the property.....the man who purchased it raised a family and apparently made peace with it.Sometimes other men under the influence of alcohol would attack it with stakes and other weapons to no effect. When Johnson moved away at age thirty it was still making appearances. If anybody else has any info on this please post it.Most likely it's some American tall tale or 19th century newspaper hoax, but it's so unique I wonder if it's part of some local area folklore. |

The maternal grandmother of my brother and I passed away about ten years ago. She was much beloved by everyone in the family, and was a wonderful woman. We all knew her by a certain nickname that we commonly referred to her by when she was alive. My nephew is a toddler now, and my brother recently told me that a few months back he was playing in the house one day and he pointed to a vacant corner of his room where there was no one at the time, smiled a big smile like he was looking at someone standing there, and started saying that nickname (which is not common). My brother said it stunned him and it was very creepy, because he had never used the name in front of the boy before, nor had anyone else. |

Maybe not the best story for a "creepy" thread, but I'm hoping more people will read it this way. My grandpa just died a week ago. We knew it was coming, as he was diagnosed with prostate cancer 4 years ago. On Saturday (13 days ago) I saw him, and he was still alert. He was losing a lot of weight but never complained of pain or discomfort. 4 days later, it all went downhill. He was talking to himself, talking to people that weren't there, and making hand gestures as if he were fishing. My mom and I were there, but I don't think he made the connection that it was us. The next day he was unconscious. My mom had some music Grandpa liked on her Ipod, and we put the earphones in and his breathing changed a little when it started playing. Later, we put his hearing aid in. I was sitting next to him for a couple hours last Thursday, occasionally I would lean over and tell him I was there. Then I squeezed his hand and he squeezed back! He was still unconscious and unable to move or open his eyes. Later, my dad told me that he experienced the same thing. He squeezed Grandpa's hand, and Grandpa squeezed back. Then dad squeezed his hand twice, and Grandpa squeezed twice. Finally, just about 5 minutes before he died, my cousin was sitting next to him, telling him that all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all OK. As she was listing our names, he starting crying. And that was it. I know this is a pretty personal story to put out here for all to see, but I wanted others to know. My grandpa was out, but he could hear us and he knew we were there. After I heard about him crying, it made me feel at ease because while he was unconscious, I got to say goodbye and told him I loved him. Now I know he heard. |

If film, it seems like a simple case of the film being partially exposed a second time. I have messed around with cheap film-cameras when I was younger, and could get the same effect. It appears to have been taken with a digital camera, here's the EXIF data from the unaltered image: Although the flash went off, the shutter speed was 2 seconds, as the ISO (capture speed) was at 100 (instead of 400 or 800). Were the girls in front of a campfire or something? The flash is giving them the clear and bright colors, but the flash only lasts for hundredths of a second or less, the remaining 2 seconds could have caught red light in the background scattering off smoke between the camera and the girls. There would also be a decent amount of camera shake with the shutter held open for 2 seconds, so if you snapped the pic, then put the camera down where there was a red light source, it could have blurred into the shape you see, 2 seconds is a long time when dealing with photos.

I was thinking the same thing. "Who stole my golden arm?"
