Reconsidering Pekah Getting mildly interested in attaining a working understanding of the scholarly outlook on the Old Testament and history of Israel & the kingdoms it interfaced with at the time. |

Start with Richard Elliott Friedman who is probably the most readable on the current state of academic scholarship and debate around Documentary Hypothesis and biblical archaeology as it emerged since Wellhausen in the 1800s. Maybe start with his landmark book "Who Wrote the Bible?" Or "The Bible with Sources Revealed". Friedman simplifies these dense academic studies but he fills his books with footnotes and links to much heavier stuff. For the Christian writings you'll no doubt land on Ehrman's research at some point. |
