Is digital piracy and peer-to-peer sharing sinful even if it's not technically stealing? Why do we have to pay when artists aren't getting their fair share? In this highlight, Father John Brancich from the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter explains why piracy is sinful. Despite many arguments saying it is ethical in certain circumstances, Father Brancich argues that we are obligated to obey all copyright laws. As the laws prohibit the sharing of this copyrighted content with others, piracy and peer-to-peer sharing are immoral and sinful. However, in cases where you own a product and want to create a backup for yourself, you are entitled to do so. This show is produced by the Station of the Cross Catholic Media Network. Is digital scamming sinful? Those complaining about piracy do it all the time. https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/man-refused-refund-after-digital-lord-of-the-rings-movies-disappear-from-his-library-3396193/ Google TV (formerly Google Play Movies & TV) is a digital video service that lets you rent or buy a variety of films and TV shows. Much like other streaming sites, they have a fluctuating catalog of movies. However, a user who purchased the extended editions of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy was left aggrieved with the site and its live support service after the content they bought suddenly disappeared from the site. The attached screenshot shows the live supporting agent explaining to the user that the content was removed from the catalog, but that they are ineligible for a refund as the original purchase exceeded the company’s 120-day refund window. (more at link) So, it's OK for those scammers to simply take away the access to a content they sold. But it's not OK for users to get the content free? Software that I bought was stolen when the companies simply decided to turn off the activation servers. And not just me, several other people (including in this website) also got robbed. So, fuck those complaining about "muh digital rights". What is good for the goose is good for the gander.  |

Yet, here we are. Those that pushed for the digital millennium act and several other "anti-piracy" laws are the worst offenders when infringing on the laws and copyright issues. Microsoft, Apple, and several others are infamous for copyright violations and then drying the ones they stole from in courts and legal processes, forcing them to "agreements", or simply stealing their users by disabling software licenses or, like in Google's example, arbitrarily removing content from a catalogue. And nothing happens to them because the government and courts are in their pockets. Therefore, those hypocritical speeches about "stealing content being sinful" is just blatant bs. |

As it stands, I try to split the baby on this one. I have over 1,000 movies on my Plex server. And I paid for them, either as a DVD/BluRay or digital download from Amazon, etc. And once I've paid, I copy them to my server. Even if Amazon revokes the license, I've still got my copy to watch. Which I paid for. I do not accept their assertion that you're paying for a license to watch, not ownership. That's not how things work, at least when oligarchs aren't running (ruining) the world.The Sony/Betamax court case determined that format- and time-shifting of something you can legally access, is legal. That's what I'm doing. |

Taking anything that is not yours is theft, and theft is a sin. Ask yourself if that digital whatever is yours or not. Did you pay the creator or the owner of the property / rights ? If it is not yours, and you take it without paying the owner, it is theft. It's very simple. Don't make it harder than it is. My simple take, is, if it's not mine, and I want it, I will pay for it. I don't have any desire to take something that isn't mine, and I'll have to answer to God for it. As long as I posses something that isn't mine, I cannot be forgiven for the sin of stealing it. I must either return it or pay the owner. Then I can be forgiven. |

A take that would probably make everybody upset but may be quite accurate would be this: If you are not consuming the media product in a legal way that is theft and a resulting Sin, including watching Youtube with a Adblocker, Most modern business practices and buisinesses are not in accordance with or doing things in a Godly manner. |
