Here's a question for the knowledgeable: what would be the effects, both structural and visual, of a deep penetrator / "bunker buster" bomb targeted toward a large government building? No regular bombs, just a deep penetrator? My surmise is that the above-ground structure would be severely damaged from what would appear to be an earthquake, but there would be no giant blast as if it was hit with a conventional bomb. The building would become unusable, the underground bunkers (which we know are there) would be wiped out, and the situation would be ambiguous enough for quasi-deniability. |

The problem is that we don't have a great way to do much while people are in the streets in this environment. We would have to take out the AA systems all over again first and that would trigger an instant Iranian swarm attack beyond what happened this past year. We would be fighting the regimes' military forces first for a week or so before we could offer any real support to protestors on the ground. If it went badly for us and somehow killed a bunch of protestors, things could go sideways fast. |

I don't think most people understand. I think they view a lot of it as generic "over there" problems, or maybe just "Iran hates us." The role Iran has played in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and elsewhere isn't fully appreciated. They've killed thousands of Americans, they've f'd up world trade with the Houthis in the Red Sea, they've helped keep the Russians going in Ukraine, and so on. That regime ending would be an incredible change. |

Nobody needs to govern with the impression they're in power at the point of Israeli bayonets. The Mossad, historically, acted in Iran using proxies: Azeris, Balochis, some Sunni Arabs, and other ethnic groups. A lot of their assets were used and either killed or fled the country after the June war. I'm sure they still have a few surprises left, though. Amid mass protests in #Iran, @DailyMail is reporting exclusively tonight on secret documents from the Iranian regime's inner sanctum that we @UANI have obtained, which reveal the #IRGCterrorists suppression playbook, specifically its Sarallah Headquarters. UANI will be publishing the full report next week, which we hope will be of use to the Iranian freedom fighters on the ground and governments around the world. Stay tuned.
According to a senior Iranian source speaking to The Telegraph, Supreme Leader Khamenei has ordered the IRGC to stay at peak alert, surpassing June war readiness, putting his security in their hands as defections loom elsewhere. The official noted that the IRGC’s missile bunkers are fully mobilized, stating, “This time, it would be very different.”
Happening tonight in #Tehran, the capital city of #Iran, snipers linked to the #IRGC have been positioned on or near some government buildings tonight. This protester was shot by them. These snipers are most likely from Saberin Special Forces of the IRGC

What can the US hit without causing collateral damage? We have a variety of stealth aircraft and a variety of precision munitions, some of which don't even use explosives. There would be a range of options. On the other hand, I don't think think it's an exaggeration to say there's value in moving assets around the region and letting certain things be seen in certain places. A tanker orbiting here, a transport landing there, etc. The IRGC is badly degraded after last year's festivities, and giving them more external threats to track, monitor, and assess is going to make it harder for them to do the same for all the internal threats they're facing. We could launch a handful of B2s from Whiteman in a fashion similar to Midnight Hammer, but quietly land them somewhere else in the US, and they'd kill a good 24-36+ hours trying to figure out where they went. lol |

It seems as though the protests are only getting bigger and more violent. I just hope it doesn't fizzle. I hope the good guys have the assets to finish this one off. I hope Trump and our allies have some plans. |

They need guns, lots of guns. The IRGC will run once the protesters start killing them A moral booster would be Israeli jets doing a bombing run and then some wing waving flyovers The foreign boots on the ground should be interesting News whores are covering Walz, MN but no Persia |

US assets, on the other hand... No foreign boots until asked. The Iranian people need to own this, both in their own eyes and the world. They are a movement in its infancy, and like human children they need the pride from "I did it all by myself" to give them the confidence to grow. No, they aren't really doing it by themselves, just like kids have their parents supporting them when they do their accomplishments. But it's what *they* believe that matters. |

To summarize; This is the weakest the military has been in 45 years. The economy is in the tank, and getting worse. What started as a protest by a few, over inflation (45%), has spread to all walks of life over just about everything. Last but not least, the ayatollah is scared to death about what Trump will do. eta, referring to Jack Keane on Fox. |

US consulate with marines for security, set up a Burger King (halal, of course) and start selling blue jeans in women's sizes off the back of trucks. Not give - sell. It only needs to be a token amount, but people are thirsty for a real economy and don't necessarily want handouts. |

Skimming through.. I dont see shit. A little spicier than some previous protests that were crushed? maybe.. Protestors shot, oppressive regime.. status quo Arson? traffic jams? police chief killed.. Doesnt sound very revolutionary yet, this is barely a summer of peaceful protest over here, over there requires another level of carnage to be unusual. |

They've killed thousands of Americans, they've f'd up world trade with the Houthis in the Red Sea, they've helped keep the Russians going in Ukraine, and so on. That regime ending would be an incredible change. I believe the mainstream (and many online) talking heads are ignoring it because they have been trying push America down the same path as Iran. The 1979 "revolution" was not people asking to become an Islamic Theocracy. Groups of communists, secular liberals, and nationalists got the population, especially young people, fired up to change things. The revolutionaries thought they were getting economic reform, social reform and removing influence of other countries. Islamists appeared to be on the side of revolutionaries but ended up taking over, purging dissent, etc. A rough analogy is New York electing a mayor. People there apparently believe Marxism/socialist ideology is a fix for whatever woes NY is experiencing. Now imagine NY was it's own country and the mayor had a network of clerics/foot soldiers to enact strict sharia law, kill or imprison opposition, spend NY's wealth on terrorism, etc. That's a very over simplified comparison to what happened in Iran. A huge number of Iranians have experienced the jacked up results and want to get rid of the Islamists that took over. The current situation in Iran is NOT something the American political left or legacy media wants highlighted. So they're ignoring the current "revolution" hoping it fails and disappears into the dust of history. Why the political right, including folks o this site are ignoring or not interested is puzzling. I do have a theory. It's just a theory though. Another aspect of the 1979 Irian revolution was nationalism. "Iran first" wasn't a slogan but the principle was being pushed at the population. It was different from our "America First" but appeals to nationalism was a tactic used to manipulate. The revolutionaries were not complaining about the Shaw funding projects around the world. It was mostly focused on getting people stirred up by Marxist and islamists into believing "western" influence was harming or controlling their county. My theory is that this is exactly what some on the political right are doing right now by stirring up the kids over economic equality, claiming Islam isn't a significant concern in the US and Israel is running our country, etc, etc. My theory is that people on the "right" with a nefarious agenda are worried that Americans will learn the history of how Iran got to where it is. If Americans learn history they will see that stirring up the kids over housing/wages/Israel/whatever is straight out of the Marxist (and Islamic) playbook. If Iranians succeeded, there will be a lot of interest in the "new' country and bunch of young folks free to tell everyone about what happened. Hence, some on the so-called right are ignoring events in Iran, hoping it'll just fail and disappear. |
