I'm not suicidal, but I don't get much joy out of life these days. I'm not sure of it counts as "depressed" or not. I moved way up here, so my wife could be near her family and friends. Problem is, now she spends most of her free time with them. I'm often alone. I have my wife and boy, but they don't like doing things I like. They'll go shoot with me occasionally, but they get bored soon. Neither likes to work on stuff. I haven't made any friends here, either. If I am not with the family, I'm alone. Sometimes I feel alone even when they're with me. I'm a bit of a loner by nature, and I am often content to do things by myself. However, there are times when I'd really like to have another guy to work on stuff or maybe drink a couple of beers by the fire. I've made an effort, to no avail. I don't go out much; I pretty much just go to work and go home. Yeah, my eternal project car has stalled, for various reasons - some legit, like other things to do. I've also gotten frustrated with some aspects of it, and my attitude has suffered. Getting out to car events is something I'd like and that should motivate me to get to work. Some health problems have slowed me down in recent years, but it's not enough to prevent me from getting that done. That's one of the things I would like to have a buddy for. Back home, my buddies came over and drank beer and helped me work on the car. It went faster, and it was more fun. |

Had a, well, let’s call him friend of a friend end it the other day. Someone I knew, but was not overly close with. Oh, how I hate it for his wife and kids left behind. Please, if you’re going through something reach out to one of us. Life is hard. It really is. That sounds so simple, but it is all I got at the moment. God’s blessings to you all. And, RIP Andy |

Found out a guy I knew from high school took his life the other day. I wasn't too close with him, last time he and I spoke was a year ago... troubled guy, but had a big heart and cared about people. Incredible artist. Got married a year ago, was looking to start his own tattoo shop. Past few weeks, he was posting some weird stuff on Facebook. I really should have paid more attention to that. Hope you find peace, Chris. RIP. Originally Posted By Capt_Strugglebus: Deleted. I periodically check back in this thread, as it has helped me in the past... @gearjammer351, I feel your pain, my friend! I'm sort of in the same boat myself and don't know what to do. My wife and I raised our kids in a house we owned for 23 years- in Kentucky, in a part of town that became way overdeveloped and a traffic nightmare, so when the youngest went to college (but still comes home some weekends) we decided to move. Our oldest is my step-son, we've been together since he was 3, he's now 33. He lived across state lines 30 minutes away from us, in Indiana, and has 8 acres. They have 2 kids, 7 and 4. Wife is from there, too, and her mom and cousins and high school/college friends all live over in that area. Long story short- a house that backs up to their property became available- off market estate deal. We had looked at several houses and had not found anything, and my wife wanted to move back 'over there', so I was a good husband and agreed to buy the house and move over there last June. I HATE IT! I absolutely hate living over here. We both still work in Kentucky so we have to pay bridge tolls to/from, our church is in KY, our friend groups, everything. This area is run-down, economically, being lower income...I'm no snob and don't make six figures myself, but I've worked since I was 16 years old, and I don't want to see meth heads and psych patients when I go to the grocery store and see zombies on the sidewalks. Its not a shit-hole, but it is close. Not only the inconvenience and cost, turns out a UPS runway expansion was completed right before we moved here, so EVERY UPS cargo plane coming to the airhub flies DIRECTLY over our house between 1,000 and 2,000 feet up. They start as early as 10pm, and run 60 seconds apart until as late as 2pm the next day. I cant sleep, I'm irritable constantly and ANGRY. I absolutely regret this decision. I finally told my wife what's been bugging me a couple weeks ago. She didn't talk to me for four days and slept in the other room. She will not agree to moving again - her son and his kids are the most important thing in her life, and she would live in their basement if he let her. Oh, and the best part? I just started what is a dream job for me a couple months ago, which gives me a take-home car. BUT- I cant take the take home car across state lines!!!! So I have to drive to work, switch equipment/stuff over, change cars... rinse repeat. So I'm missing out on not only the convenience but the free gas from a car I could drive all the time. I'm talking to a counselor, I got a prescription for something to help me sleep from my doctor, so I'm doing what I can. But, I don't know what to do beyond that, or long term. I absolutely hate living over here and I don't see that changing. |

Anyone here savvy with dealing with hiring managers etc? White collar job. History of depression creeping back and I need to crawl out of it. Sorry for the long post here. I’m in a very bad headspace this morning. I’m struggling like never before to get through it. A couple of weeks ago the company I work for announced they are closing this location and we’re out of here the end of July. I’ve been going through the job search for a couple of months now because I had a gut feeling this was coming. The job search is absolutely depressing and exhausting. The unknown is killing me and the wheels of doom are rolling hard inside my head right now even though there is a couple of potential leads that could turn out positive for me. I just can’t shake this negative feeling. I’m about to have to walk into my job in a minute and it’s just depressing in there too. It’s like going to day jail. Nothing to really work on and everyone is either sad of happy because they have it made financially and have no real worries. I’m the first one. My wife has multiple health issues that keep her from working and keep me financially strapped. Love her more than anything though and couldn’t live without her. No regrets. I suppose I should explain the couple of potential leads I mentioned previously. Perhaps there is someone here that is pretty savvy in this stuff and can help bring some positive light to this situation. This may come off as sounding spoiled. I don’t know. Raleigh NC job - had an onsite interview on Monday last week finally. Everything went well. This past Tuesday I emailed the hiring manager to check in for an update. He told me everything is “in process” , whatever that means. One more quick video call tomorrow with a guy who couldn’t be there while I was onsite last week. Just a formality. While there, me and the hiring manager got on a video call with his boss who is director of engineering and sits Germany. At the end of the interview he asked when I could potentially start. I explained it’s usually a two week notice but my manager has been so good to me that I’d like three weeks to catch him up so he can better take care of the team I manage after I’m gone. He lived hearing that and explained that if I needed 4 or 5 weeks it would be no problem and to just let the hiring manager know. He then asked the hiring manager when he could have something to me by. The end of that week or the next? The next possibly was said. What’s something, I don’t know. This is the place I really want to be. First choice here but my wheels of doom are fucking with me bad today. West Memphis Arkansas job - just let me say this has got to be the worst place on earth. Either live outside Memphis or north Mississippi. Company seems pretty good, just unfortunate location. They hired out a headhunter to find someone and the lady found me. She’s super aggressive and apparently this company is aggressive in getting someone in there to start. They are wanting to make an offer any day now, but I haven’t even been onsite yet! What the hell? So they are now setting up travel to go there for a tour mid next week. The headhunter lady said I could give them my decision while I was there. WTF. I’m feeling very pressured and it’s making me very uncomfortable. Not good for my mental health right now. So yes, while things are looking up, my wheels of doom and depression are ramping up hard this morning. Crazy right? I know it’s my depression creeping in. Here I am fighting off tears sitting at my desk now. It’s the unknown that is a killer. I don’t know what to think about all of the things going on right now. I don’t know how to handle probing for an answer from Raleigh about their intentions going forward so I can possibly tell West Memphis no thank you. It’s getting tough to maintain the positive look on the outside while inside I’m fighting depression during these interviews. |

JasonK94Z…. I feel your pain, too- I just went through this. I survived two rounds of layoffs in the Fall, and everyone knew other changes were coming at the beginning of the year. I started looking and applying right away. The job I have now I applied for at the beginning of December, and didn’t get a call for an interview until February! In the meantime I applied for several other jobs, got a couple of the “we are going in another direction” emails, and went to two other interviews. One of those was a waste of time completely, and the other one was not a good fit for me, but they really liked me. So the job I have now- it took them 90 days to get me hired. In that time I sunk pretty low, mentally. The waiting and wondering was just too much. There were multiple steps to complete, and when I did one thing, I’d wait an unknown amount of time, then another task- always in the dark whether I ‘passed’ the last one, and “should be a couple weeks” was heard a lot. I just had to come to the realization it was out of my hands. I spent time every day praying, reading devotionals and trying my best to stay busy. It wasn’t easy at all and I never want to go through that again. Talking to friends wasn’t much help because that’s all works say “ you got it” trying to be positive. Get outside, go for a walk, read one of the 21 day brain rewire books… something. - and just keep swimming! I’ll pray for you. |

This has happened to me before, but this time seems really different out there. A lot of ghosting by corporate recruiters. It’s rude and unprofessional. Seems like when I first started applying to jobs, things got really hot. Now, things are drying up. It’s scary. |
| I’m about done. 62 nothing left. 90 dollars to my name. I was making enough to live off Walmart Spark until they changed the way they do orders and pay. I’ve made 142 all week. I can’t live like this. Homelessness is a death sentence. Funny thing is no one will know or even give a shit unless I owe them money. My whole life was a waste. Fuck this |

Fuck this @dbmers I give a shit, and you don't owe me a thing What do you like doing? Any hobbies that involve building stuff, fixing stuff, anything like that? The job market in just about every sector sucks right now, I'm not going to try to say it doesn't, but there is still absolutely work out there that is somewhat bearable and offers up a livable wage. |

Not in Caca Grande, Az. It’s all service jobs. Low paying crap working with kids. I can’t even work with people anymore. I need to work alone. Spark was paying about 1000-1200 a week then Walmart decided to make a major update. Essentially killing off everyone’s income. If you hustled you could make 400 a day. Now I made 350 all of last week. So many damn foreigners doing it too because they don’t want to learn English so they do this taking work from the rest of us. There’s a bunch of Cubans doing it here. Everywhere has for hire signs and yet it’s been the same people working there for years. Any hobbies I have don’t translate into immediate income. Everyone loves my photography so even a pet photography business would take at least a year. I HATE THIS FUCKING PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s dirty and ugly. Spanish is becoming the dominant language. I live in a 220 sqft dump with my GSD and 3 cats. I want to move to Prescott, Payson, ShowLow anywhere up there. I’d love Idaho too, but don’t have the money to move. (LMAO at the just move crowd). I’m stuck in this mental and physical HELL. I have heart disease, now kidney disease is rearing it’s head, and I’ve had 3 life threatening asthma attacks because of all the dust here |

If I can add anything, you are all not alone. After losing my son very recently, I have not found joy in very much now and the same for my wife. All the hopes and dreams we had for him are gone and dashed by the way side. My daughter doesn't like being at our house anymore and I can't blame her. She has been at her best friends house since the onset. She would stay for an hour or so and leave with her best friend and her mom, a woman who has been very kind to us and have known for years. That night, I feel like I lost both my children. One thing I have come to realize is that we/you/us are not alone. In all of our hard times and family struggles there is someone who can help and has helped me immensely in all of this. I have said it before and I will say it again, Jesus really can make a difference in our/your lives. Prior, during and after my son's funeral, the Lord has been good to us. We have had more support than I could ever dream. My sister and I made up from years along of issues. As hard as it's been, I thank God for the time we have all had together. My son was depressed for months, a while back but he seemed to be getting out of it. He worked hard to get through schooling, finally got on the fire dept. that I worked at- as he wanted to follow in the "old man's" footsteps and he was surpassing me and I couldn't have been any happier. He made it past his probationary year and was going on to get released as a primary medic. He had a full life of promise in front of him. We were very proud of him. It started like most of us have had, he had fallen in love with a girl, they wound up breaking up and that utterly destroyed him. He couldn't get past the first girl he ever loved. He couldn't see all of the blessings he had and the devil got him in a pit of despair. We would have Bible readings/devotions in our home together and I prayed and talked with him. He was my little buddy. We had plans to get back to working out together and many other things and I thought he was looking toward better times. We just don't know what happened and will probably never know. In a dark spot in his life, my son had enough and then was gone. Now there is a hole that can't be replaced. I am glad to say in all of this, my son knew Jesus Christ and had accepted Him as his Savior. The devil is real and will do what he can to get you down but with the Lord Jesus we have a way out of all of this. Put your trust on Him. As hard as it is now, I know no matter what happens in this world we will see him again in glory. I will be praying for you all. |
Be the change you want in this world.

I got the offer from Raleigh like I was praying so hard for! On top of it all, the offer came in paying way higher than I ever expected. I can’t believe I’ve been so lucky and blessed with this. Almost 4 months of waiting, interviewing and traveling everywhere, etc. The job market is rough out there. |

I need help. I was fired from the contract I was on in mid May. Was making about $35/hr and had a 5 minute commute. Company said they could place me in a $22/hr position with an hour commute. Position was completely different and several steps down. Said no. Filed for unemployment. Thought I'd be ok. Told that unemployment insurance takes at least a month (sometimes 2), but you get back pay from the claim start date. Started looking for work. No luck so far. Got the reply from Oregon employment this week. Claim denied because I voluntarily quit. That was going to be about $8K plus $872/week. Then -poof-, gone. I'm behind on everything. Got served a court date for eviction yesterday. Rambling? Yes. Maybe I just need to vent. Anyone hiring in Portland Oregon? There are more details. But it sounds like a cliche country song. Thanks |

Thanks Try to find a way to appeal their decision. You may get several "Nos," but it only takes one "Yes" to win. I was in a situation (admittedly many years ago) where I appealed a decision and won on the first appeal. It's in the department's best interest (and that of the reviewer) to deny as many claims as possible. ETA In fact they are required to deny a certain number of requests to save money. Most people give up after the first denial. Any time we reduce or deny your benefits, we will send you an administrative decision. If you don't agree with the administrative decision, you have the right to request a hearing. The Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) will review the decision through the appeals process. Your employer has the same right to appeal a decision and request a hearing in some situations. During a hearing, an administrative law judge from the Office of Administrative Hearings will hear testimony from the people involved and make a ruling. Employers can attend and give testimony. Hearings are usually conducted over the phone. We will provide you with language assistance and other accommodations at no cost. If you appeal an administrative decision, continue to file for benefits each week. If the appeal is decided in your favor, you will be paid only for those weeks you claimed on time and met all other eligibility requirements. Link If you phrase it just right, you may convince them that the company's actions were in fact a termination. To appeal an Oregon unemployment decision, you must file a written Request for Hearing within 10 to 30 days (depending on the issue) of the decision's mailing date. Continue claiming benefits while your appeal is pending. AI summary of the appeals situation. Check out the AIs for help; the above offered to help with the appeals process. Yeah, they're wrong 15% of the time, and yeah, you can't cite them as real legalese, but they are a start. Best of luck to you! eta Constructive dismissal: Constructive discharge occurs when an employer deliberately creates or allows working conditions so intolerable that a reasonable person would feel compelled to quit. Because the resignation is essentially an involuntary termination, the law treats it as a wrongful firing, allowing the employee to pursue legal remedies. A cut in pay plus a substantially longer commute is a hardship you simply could not withstand. Wikipedia constructive dismissal |

| Deleted because I don't want to talk about it any more. Id rather wait to see just how many more things can go wrong first. |
Im convinced drinking from the hose and getting our asses whooped by Dad when we were bad was Gen. Xs "secret" immunization against growing up to be useless.

Well I "removed" my last post because I felt embarassed and wanted to see what else could go wrong. I really shouldn't have said the last part about seeing what else could go wrong. My bad luck started a few minths ago when I got very sick and ended up hospitalized with kidney problems. I lost so much time at work it depleted my already dwindling funds. When I got back to work I did extra shifts, did odd jobs and started selling my stash on the EE. I kept my head above water but just barely. Then last week I got laid off from work. Busness was too slow and there were too many employees. Thats when I made my post that I deleted. Well apparently life wasnt done with me. I had a major falling out with the person I was renting from and had to move out. I have a storage unit that I moved all my stuff to and got a cheap motel room. Well my job search has so far been fruitless, I had to check out of the motel yesterday and I have 5 bucks left to my name. I honestly dont know what to do. I don't know many people in this town, my brother and I arent speaking and all the friends Ive reached out to have one reason or another why they cant help. Its amazing how the people who say they will always be there for you just arent when you need them. Im still unsure why Im talking about this. I just feel like I need to vent I guess. Im sitting in my truck wasting gas because its so hot here in Florida I need the ac. I keep checking the EE and another forum where I have items posted for sale hoping someone buys something just so I can get gas and some basics. I have no idea what to do. No work means no place to stay. No place to stay means holding a job when i find one will be a nightmare. Im lost. Edited to add: If you want anything I have on the EE there would be no issues with the transaction. Ive built a great reputation here and made many friends from sales. Everything is safe in my storage unit which is right by the post office. The last thing I need is someone reading this and it being the reason they dont want to deal with me. |

I got hired. Orientation on Wednesday. Start training Monday likely. It's a severe pay cut but it's work. Thursday morning I have initial court in regards to eviction. I want to pay every one I owe. But the downgrade in pay will make it rough. I'm also filing for a hearing to try and fight the decision Oregon unemployment made against me. Tomorrow I try and sell some guns for immediate bills, like phone. Positive: job. Negative: there's a lot Reached out to AER last week but haven't heard from them yet. This sucks. But I'm doing my best to get through it. Thanks to all that have tried to help in this thread. |

Can it get worse? Fuck yes it can. So i get down here to texas, have to take my DOT physical again. This time it's extreme high blood pressure. Now I have to go to a clinic, get on meds and try to take my physical again. So i head back to colorado to get my wife. We make it down here last Saturday and get moved into the new house. Everything is going OK for a week, she still can barely walk. Then this mor ing she wakes me at 4am telling me she can't breathe. Call 911, get her to the hospital, 9 hours later we find she has heart issues, extreme high blood pressure, blockage in one of the arteries to her brain and a microscopic aneurism in her brain that hasn't burst and probably won't. Holy fucking shit. Guess what? No job, no CDL, No insurance. This shit will probably be several hundred k when it's all done. I just dont fucking know what to do anymore. Just when things are looking up, God takes a giant shit on me. I was supposed to get on my heart meds froday but walmart is fucking out of stock. So i was going to take a dose monday, get my medical card lined out and start the new job on Monday but she will probably be here for a few days. Motherfucker. |

I have an appointment at the VA tomorrow. I've had more days in the past month where I didn't care what happened to me, and more days that I really didnt want to be around anymore, more days that I cried uncontrollably for no reason. As someone who hates medication and seeking help, I really hope theres a light there otherwise I won't be around much longer. |

The co-worker that sits in the cubical adjacent to me took his own life last week. I feel a little guilty because I didn't realize he was so depressed and I don't think I was helping him cope with his life at all. We used to be friends and talk outside of work, but had a falling-out earlier this year over work-related stuff. I deleted his phone number from my address book. :/ This is my 2nd friend/acquaintance who has killed themselves in the last 5 years. Starting to wonder if I'm a bad friend. |
