I have an 8' tall 7/4 Bubinga slab with live edge. Thinking of making small dining table. Trouble is slab is only 27" wide. If I crosscut it and put live edges to outside table would be 48" long but 54" wide. Odd. It's not really thick enough to resaw as resulting boards would be less than 3/4" thick. Any ideas? I may need to throw in the towel and make a coffee table and two end tables out of it. It's the perfect size for that and there would be no waste. |

Rip in half Space the two halfs as wide as you want to have the table. Fill in the void with another piece or wood or epoxy. |

If its waterfall bubinga(or even its its just plain) I don't think you find a contrasting species that looks good and complimentary to run a piece like a racing strip down the middle. It will just end up looking tacky. That will possibly introduce other problems too with seasonal movement, unless you get something that is very similar in expansion and contraction. If OP doesnt care to do an epoxy river table with the live edges in the middle, then he should find another bubinga slab that will give him the width he wants with live edges on the outside. |

Not at all but you can only imagine my disappointment when I found not a single suggestions to borrow a board stretcher from the neighbor.
