So I love to snorkel. The last trip we took to Maui we did 9 snorkel sessions in 6 days. But the fins always tear my feet apart. The first set of fins I had wore a bad blister on the side of my big toe. The more I kicked the worse it got. Then I got a larger pair of fins and they were sliding around on my feet. I wear a size 12 Wide shoe so that might be an issue. I could always test some fins in a local pool to see if they worked well. Any suggestions? Should I tape up my feet? Are you near Denver? Run up to Flatirons Scuba in Broomfield and talk to them, try on some decent fins. They'll get you setup correctly. But, you are probably right - those socks might help. I know a few people that scuba with socks. |

Were you using rental fins? If so, they generally suck. How much snorkeling are we talking about? In current? Are you freediving or just chillin on the surface. I sold a lot of Ocean Reef Duo fins for 'surface' snorkeling in S FL. Its an open heel but designed to be used bare. Great customer reviews. |

Full-foot fins suck for any kind of swimming. Go to a dive shop, buy some dive boots or shoes and a pair of OPEN HEEL fins. A decent shop will be able to fit you with a correct fin for snorkeling. |

We did 2-3 hours per day A little bit of both, usually not a ton of current |

So.. just a slight update in case people want to know. I used some cheap Cressi fin socks from Amazon and open-heel fins. We snorkeled QUITE A BIT on Maui and I think it was the best time I've had with equipment so far. It is a bit of a pain to have to put on your socks and fins in the water but I got zero blisters so that's a big win. I had to put my socks on in the water to prevent any sand from getting in/on them. The fins themselves got kind of trashed as I permanently deformed them somehow. The mask and snorkel worked fine and I didn't have to rent anything from Snorkel Bob so I consider that a win. |

| I'm going to Maui later this week and I just use my scuba fins - Avanti Quattro+ - for snorkeling, with my 3mm booties. Yeah, you might look a little dorky with the booties on, but they're great fins and I don't have to bring a second pair of fins just for snorkeling. |
I don't know what will happen, or if anything will happen. But if something does, I'd rather be the guy with a gun than the guy without one.
