Now I'm jacked. Well, I dreamed I was jacked last night, but what did happen is that I've been peeing out my butt most of the day. Made for a dicey time at church. The reason? Recently there has been studies showing the cognitive benefits of hyper dosing creatine. I first took the stuff years ago, like when it first got popular, around 1996 or so. I think I followed the prescribed dosage at the time that suggested a loading phase then maintenance. I had good results, but over the years I've been off and on. Anyway I decided to jump back on because of the latest research and was reminded that it could, might, nay likely cause stomach distress. Bottom line, how are people dosing creatine at 25-30g and not spending most of their day surfing arfcom on the toilet? In before "poop thread." |

Been doing 20-25g/d of monohydrate for same reasons mentioned by OP. I’ve not been peeing out butt, but I’ve not noticed a difference vs not taking it either. So a little disappointed as the claims seems like it was a game changer. Maybe I’ll try 30g and then report back |

I don't take more than 5-10mg per day so no direct experience, but perhaps if you spread out the intake through the day instead of all at once you would have a better experience. Creatine might be the most studied and safest supplement available. I used to think it gave me headaches but I just wasn't drinking enough water. I expect the tummy issues are from taking too much at once. Small study on 10mg vs 2x5mg daily dose. |

I've taken 5g/day, every day, for 8+ years now. Gotta drink plenty of water. I've read a couple studies on creatine and it's preventative effects on alzheimers. Nothing about cognition improvement. |

Your "issue" is a known side effect of 25-30g/daily. 3-5g is quite common as a therapeutic daily dose. Once your body adjusts to the higher doses, you might not experience so much gastric distress. A google/bing/yahoo/ search will show quite a few opinions on how long for a loading phase and the doses are usually close to the above. Creatine, once saturated in your system will enable the muscle tissue to hold more water. This does several things, you get a bigger "pump", you get weight gain because your muscle tissue holds more water which increases your endurance. Because it makes your muscles sop up any water, you HAVE to stay hydrated. You can see where I live. Staying hydrated is a way of life, even in the winter, especially in the lowlands where I live. My daily minimum is AT LEAST 64oz of water. Luck to ya. |

I take 10g a day in a single dose. The day before a long drive that I wake up very early for I will take an additional 10-15g and seem to deal with the decreased sleep/rest very well. I used this trick most recently last month. I got up at 1am to drive my family from PA to GA to visit more family for a few days before going to the beaches at the Gulf of America for a few days. |

I got rhabdo about three times, the last time left me in kidney failure. I am moderately better now, so I am just not adding it to my stack. Yes, ton of variables. Does it provide enough of a benefit to me to risk it right now? Don't think so, so |

Don't think so, so @high_order1 If you had pre-existing kidney issues, the doc should have warned you off it. My dad has kidney damage from type2. He wanted to try creatine to stave off dementia/Alzheimer's, but that was a no-go. Otherwise, I've not been to a doctor that has had anything negative to say about creatine. Coming down with rhabdomyolysis 3 times that quickly is odd to say the least. I don't doubt you at all, but it doesn't generally happen that often (unless you've got a pre-existing condition). |

I never had any kidney issues past kidney stones, so that wasn't an issue. I totally agree about the rhabdo. I didn't even know what it was, but the medical people knew exactly what it was. I was pushing myself really hard at the time, not so bad relatively, but for me, I was really pushing. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about creatine before or since, so outlier of outliers. (shrugs) Doc said the creatine would clog my kidneys. |

Try HCL, it bothers my stomach less even with larger dosages. You can also try taking in some carbs with the creatine, ~50g of whatever carbs (couple slices of bread or a couple scoops of waxy maize or dextrose) seems to help the stomach and isn’t necessary a bad thing to take in before a workout . |
