Last week I shot 74-71 for a +1 total in the state amateur to miss out on match play by a couple shots. I played well, just hit 2 bad shots at the wrong time over the 2 days. Yesterday I had the elbow surgery I’ve been needing for a long time. I wrecked the bursa sack twice, once playing hockey and once in Iraq when I kicked a door in and went down the stairs I didn’t know about on the other side. Then in 2009 I was grappling with an Army buddy while drunk and thought I could get out of an arm bar. I didn’t tap and I heard it pop twice. I haven’t been able to straighten it all the way since then. Somehow I’ve still managed to play good golf. Pretty stark difference between those x-rays. I bet you'll recognize quite a relief once you're healed up. What's the timeline for recovery? Respectable showing at the am. I was hoping you'd get into match play. |

I was supposed to leave the wrap on for a couple more days but it was driving me insane. It feels good to actually get ice on it. Hoping to be hitting balls in a few weeks. Attached File Attached File |

A lot of people don't realize the toll the body takes from the golf swing. I've been playing for 60 years. My lower back was really bad from the age of 30-50. I stopped playing for 5 years to let it heal. I still have a little arthritis there but its a lot better. My hands, left knee, left hip and both shoulders all show signs or arthritis. The hands are the worst, specially the right pinky finger and left cmc joint. Sucks getting old. |

Take care of that elbow Sean. I had a scorching case of golfers elbow from hitting a LOT of balls off of hard & worn driving range mats and finally had to have surgery. It did not heal well and I'm not even close to being normal again with respect to golf. Follow the advice of the doc and PT people. Don't rush it and get well soon. |

Lifting weights could trigger it so I haven’t done much in the gym the last couple years. Looking forward to getting strong again. |
I did pick up a new 2 iron today even though it’ll probably be the last club I can reliably hit again. ![]() Attached File |

But again would love to hit one. |
Day 9, just hitting smooth 8 irons. I went to chip and putt but was feeling pretty good. I don’t think the doc’s estimate of 4-6 weeks was accurate ![]() Attached File |

I think doctors under predict so they can over deliver. I had a cortisone shot in my bad hip 2 weeks ago and the doctor said it might take a week to help and might just dull the pain. Shit that stuff is awesome. From that moment I have had zero issues in the hip playing 4 days a week Good to hear you are doing well. |

The 2nd one helps for a couple months. If you need a 3rd you should probably just schedule surgery.

I'm not sure there is any surgery I can have. My hip is FAR from needing a full replacement (and having had the other done I WILL avoid it if I can). It is a torn labrum that catches with certain movements and takes my breath away. I don't know if there is a lesser surgery to repair it if this wears off too soon. Oh well. Age sucks. |

I recently picked up a U505 1 iron(16*). I’m not super high swing speed but it is fairly easy to hit off a tee. I can’t get consistent launch off the deck with it but that’s not what I bought it for. |

My 5 wood is easier on my elbow off the deck. 29 days post surgery. I fell apart a bit at the end but I’m back under par at least. Attached File |

In particular the putting stat. I hate you ![]() If I could putt like that I could get close to scratch before I finally get too old which is too close already. |

It can be as simple a thought as that, just tap it in. Yesterday I couldn't putt to save my life until the 13th hole when I realized I was rushing through my back stroke. I slowed down the tempo and started making some pars, and missed a few birdies by a couple inches. Too late to save the round though |

God I hate golf sometimes. Today I played an away course. Not quite as easy as my home courses in 100 degree weather and slight breeze. Overall good conditions.. I shot 77 but it's HOW I shot it that irks me. I felt like I was struggling all day (and that is a net 74 with my handicap at that course). But I was so tired and ready for the game to be over. Get to 18 and it is a monster hole. Doesn't LOOK like it on the card but I've been there before and I know it plays way longer than it reads and at that point into a stiff breeze so playing about 440. Hit a decent drive and still 190 out. Playing more like 215. Stiff breeze so let out the 7 wood without holding back. 4 feet from the hole and sink the putt. Golf is evil. Just when you hate it THAT happens. Maybe I need a scotch tonight watching the Cardinals-Seahawks. |
