My LED headlight from JNS Engineering arrived and I got it installed.  I haven't had a chance to run it at night yet but just shining against my garage wall it looks like it will be a big improvement with a nice sharp cutoff line.  Can't wait to try it at night.

I currently have an HJC RPHA 71 helmet, ICON Slabtown jacket, Alpinestars SMX-1 gloves, and Reax Fulton Air riding shoes.  No dedicated pants, just wear jeans for now.

I've been wanting a leather jacket so I bought 2 different used Alpinestars leather jackets.  Both look like they are practically new and together cost less than what a new leather jacket would cost.  Both are also older styles that I prefer as I don't really care for the look of the current designs.  One of the jackets is the exact kind I had when I had my TL1000R.  It was a great jacket that I regret getting rid of so I am stoked about this one.  I took a chance on the size so hopefully they both fit.  I will post pics when I receive them.

I was able to take the DR-Z out for a ride around the neighborhood tonight to test the new LED headlight.  A huge improvement over both the original halogen bulb and drop in LED bulb, almost perfect.  I can actually see in the dark now.

Spent the last 4 days in SE Ohio and W. VA riding with my club, 800 miles over three days for a total of 1600 on my Speed Triple 1200RS. The tires are almost down to the wear bars on the sides, it was a good way to die for these SuperCorsas! Wife also had a god time in one of the slower groups on her Street Triple RS.

Bit over 1100 now and closing in on 1200 miles. No issues so far

Seemed to go quick. Feel like I just did the 600 mile service

Trying to decide when I want to do the next one.

Book calls for 7500 mile oil changes

Seems really high

As bad as I am on maintenance I never liked stretching oil changes. On bikes that hold so little oil it just made more sense to me to change it out. The main thing will be in how you are riding it. If you are agressive most of the time that's different than leisure cruises.

I definitely feel I maybe heavy throttled on it a bit

I mean it’s a 300 so you gotta crank it to get going down the road lol

Does 1000 feel too far out? I was thinking about calling it around then

I can see the oil in the sight glass. It starts to get darker around the 300-400 mile mark compared to new oil

Think the Kawasaki oil kit with filter is like 40 bucks. Not very much monies since it’s 1.1 quart capacity.

Motorcycle engines share the oil with the clutch. I’d be more prone to change the oil sooner if I was city riding more than cruising.

If the factory calls for 7500 anything below that is probably safe even though it still sounds nuts. How many miles you think you'll do in a year? For me lately I hit a year before I hit 3k unfortunately so I don't worry about it. 2500 would be a third of the factory recommended interval so that might be a good mark. With it only being a quart I just know it would bother me. I'm fine being out of touch with reality.

Funny you should say that.  Probably a placebo effect of feeling free to give the throttle a good twist but I could swear my DRZ perked up after break in as well.

In any case, the bike looks great!

@350 and 340 lbs respectively neither make a real supermoto, or dirtbike. I'd get a 350/450/500 exc and supermoto wheels over either of those, but I'm biased as I daily my 350 EXC. At 230 lbs for my 350 EXC and just 250 for the 500, that difference is HUGE. I've never ridden something more flickable than my current bike. For the type of commuting I do, my bike is perfect, but I think a 500 would give me the extra oomph I'm looking for.

100%!

The guys in the shop down from me have some crazy 225cc things that'll do 70mph. One will straight power wheelie anywhere from 0-45. All that with straight ass for suspension and a single drum brake. An they wonder why I refused to ride them.

Always Arai helmet and Alpinestar gloves tho. A 2.5 mile commute pulls one into complacency with a quickness.

Yeah its not ideal, but there was a time I got caught in a bad storm coming back from TN. I was on a BMW 1300RT and I was so sopping wet, I couldnt help but just laugh maniacally as I stood on my pegs at 70mph getting absolutely drenched.

My bad, I was tired and equating ABS to traction control, which its obviously not.

Traction control would not affect downshift-induced rear tire chirping either. The thing on bikes that can prevent that is a slipper clutch, which not all bikes have.

To me, chirping a tire on downshifting means I failed to match my engine RPMs to the next gear, meaning it was a poorly executed downshift.

Any clue what the traction control setting was in this video?  I rock mine in Sport and it still seems to comes up higher than that.  I get scared when I accidentally pull wheelies.

Well that sucks, 2.0.  The used leather Alpinestars jackets that I got off of ebay arrived and are way too small.  Both size large (42 US, 52 EUR) but they must run really small.  One is a relaxed fit style that I can zip up but it's uncomfortably snug, the other I can't zip up at all.  I'm stuck with one but can return the other.  I knew that I was taking a chance when I bought them.  I was going by size charts and comparing to other size large jackets I already own that fit great or are even a bit roomy.  A real pisser too because they are otherwise really nice leather jackets and styles that I wanted.

If anyone is more on the medium side and is needing a leather motorcycle jacket then hit me up.

Sizing for gear is all over the place, Euro stuff definitely runs on the skinny side (and the zippers are usually backwards). If you don't have a shop where you can try gear on and are stuck ordering online make sure they have a good return policy.

Yeah I screwed up by not trying on some Alpinestars stuff first.  I have a size large ICON jacket that is roomy and a size large non-motorcycle leather bomber jacket that fits just fine.  I used those for reference comparing what those manufactures showed on their sizing charts and assumed A'stars stuff would be the same.

I ran up to Cycle Gear this evening to do what I should've done first.  Turns out for A'starsI need at least a 50 US/60 EUR or XXL.  And you're right about the zippers, all on the opposite side.  Lesson learned.

If anyone is more on the medium side and is needing a leather motorcycle jacket then hit me up.

Maybe wear it without a shirt underneath?

Picked up my first scratch today at the motorcyle class

We were all packed a little tight doing the course. The guy in front of me dropped his bike and it grabbed my rh shock guard leaving a little mark while we were waiting in line

Maybe I've never payed attention but my speedo is hooked up to that component then goes down to the hub. Anyways it seems not to want to pick up low speeds and there's a slight delay it seems. Granted I've never paid attention to the speedometer at low speeds until this class

Passed but not every one did. Had to reshoot one of the tests as they said I was going too slow. Only one other had to reshoot that one and he was on a dual sport so I think they had it out for us

Congrats!!!    Don't forget to apply for the insurance discount.

Is the connection to your speedo an electrical wire, or a cable in a sheath? The latter can be lubricated.
Don't confuse where I live with where I'm from.
