[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I'm driving to Wyoming ... anyone need a ride? [now back in Alabama] (Page 1 of 9)

Heading out at the end of the month. Thinking about linking my Garmin InReach map to the thread. It'll be about as exciting as watching a research-tagged land tortoise.
Nominally, the trip is from Auburn to Lander. If I was going up the eastern seaboard to New Hampshire, or something, I would pick up Appalachian Trail hikers along the way. I know that area. But this trip is taking me through parts unknown. It's like Lewis and Clark stuff. Google wants to take me through Missouri and Kansas. But, there are some states my truck has never been that are sort of on the way. Look, I've never even been to Graceland. And, I'm sort of wondering if I can make it to Amarillo by morning. It's stuff like this, stuff like this where I think I could use your help. 
ETA 01 7/5/19: Got an IM, and it looks like I've got somebody to roadtrip with! He had some of these NPs on his bucket list, and just happened to be scrolling through GD. ETA 02 7/30/19: En route. We have room for a small person. Maybe. I think I over packed. I dunno. If you are a pygmy in eastern Colorado, and you need to get to Wyoming tomorrow, this is your lucky day. ETA 03 8/6/19: RTUtah has now joined up with us. He is not a pygmy. We are going to need to spend some time tomorrow sorting gear so he can fit in the truck. ETA 04 8/12/19: RTUtah has hit the road to go back home. While he was out here, we did Gannett Peak via the Gooseneck Couloir and Grand Teton via the Exum Ridge. It was just two peaks, but I think we got a lot accomplished in a short time. ETA 05 8/14/19 Now in Yellowstone, just kind of tooling around with RTUtah's shoes. ETA 06 8/26/19 Went back into the Winds for 9 more days. Got a little climbing done. Got a little photography done. ETA 07 8/26/19 Now in SE Wyoming for the day, soon to be heading back into Colorado. ETA 08 8/29/19 Now in RMNP. Might have a climbing partner, might not. ETA 09 9/4/19 Return leg via Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi ETA 10 9/5/19 Back in Alabama, and JSB is on his way back to Georgia. And RTUtah is, I guess, weathering out a hurricane in North Carolina. ETA 11 10/18/19 RTUtah was finally reunited with his shoes when I met him for some climbing over in North Carolina. |

BTDT. I’m just here for the pics.  If the pics still suck after I get back, I'm just going to give up. The backcountry photo/video rig fills a 22 liter pack, and currently weighs in at 18 pounds. Add 35 pounds of climbing gear, plus food and bivi gear, and I might be looking at 80+ for some portions of the trip. But, I've got a plan, and I don't hit max weight until the 3rd leg. But, then again, it's probably a dumb plan. |

| If you do make it to Armarillo. Head a little further south to Palo Duro Canyon. Second largest canyon in the US. It us beautiful. The rancher that bought after we kicked out a bunch of Indians in one of the last battles of the West, let the last few North American Bison graze with his herds. Allowed them to sustain a population and flourish. There is even a zip line park there. We just went a month ago. Kids loved it! |

It can be a one way ride out there. Or to some interim destination. It can be to scatter your ex-wife's ashes. You give me the Folgers can, I take her some beautiful place, a wholly undeserved final resting place. I can pick up you and your kayak for a put-in up river somewhere. It can be full on roadtrip. Either the backcountry destinations are interesting enough for you to come along, or you can use the truck to hit other points of interest while I'm in the backcountry. Strangers, at the time ... 
Again, another stranger. This guy even left the key in the wheel well for 70satvert, if he got to my truck before I got back... 
Aforementioned strangers. Hiked something like 60 miles with them. Greaat times. 
Colorado. Two hikers and their three dogs. They needed a ride from RMNP back into Lyons, after getting turned around on some trails. 5 dogs. 5 humans. 1 Tacoma.
