I worked with someone about 15 years ago that retired and ran his own hot dog stand. I don't remember the details, but originally he wanted to fabricate his own stand, but everything would need a health inspector's blessing first. He ended up buying a complete unit instead. He mostly ran it in a Menards parking lot, but he would run it at other events as well. |

Several years ago, a friend of mine said WTF and bought a hot cart. You wouldn’t believe all the hoops he had to jump through to get licensed by the county, possibly the state and food inspection. Of course, mandatory they have to fail the first time for some bullshit. Ended up quitting after about four months. The numbers just didn’t work for him, but he ended up selling his cart for about 800 bucks more than he paid |

Only place I ever quit was over timeclock shenanigans. I was told no overtime, clock in and out for exactly 8 hours. No big deal until they had to talk to me about clocking in 6 minutes early. I explained i had clocked out 6 minutes early, but then was told I had to clock in and out to the minute for the time scheduled. Came in my usual 5-10 minutes early and was sitting around, waiting for the appointed minute, and boss asks me to do something. I told him I had a few more minutes before I could clock in. He felt this was an "attitude problem" on my part. First payday rolls around and we had to have a sit-down because I had 18 minutes of overtime, due to the after-work meeting on my first day which they had asked for. I was still willing to talk nice about it until boss hit me with "It's my way or the highway". Told him I had to hit the road. Oh well. |

When things like this happens you have to wonder if the powers that be think they can somehow get the work done cheaper/better and they make life miserable so the guy quits or if the powers that be are just dumb shits that have no idea what the employee actually gets done in his day to day job? The lady running the payroll software couldn't separate the punch-in/out from the schedule software and had to manually adjust each entry that didn't match the schedule. The wife has been pushing me to retire. But I'll probably work 1 more year to pad my 401k. Been contributing the max. Will continue to do so for another year. I like my job as an A&P and like the crew I work with. Plus we have a bunch of new grads coming in. Spreading the knowledge is something I like to do also. |
I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.
