I've been taking care of a litter of 'community cats' since they were born last September. Feed them twice a day and provided my old storage building for shelter. Bales of straw, makeshift cat houses. This afternoon at 5pm when I went to feed them I noticed one was not coming out of her cubby hole. So I get her out and her hind legs aren't working. She drags herself across the floor towards the food bowl. Oh boy! So I immediately gather her up, she's the friendliest of the 5 kittens, and bring her inside where its warm. Call the Vet ER and tell them I'm in route. So now I'm all worked up as I'm a soft touch for the animals, get the pickup going and head off. There is a storm predicted for central Virginia so now I had that to worry about. Got to vet in record time in my 30 year old pickup and they examine her. X-rays, etc. Nothing is broken but she still drags those legs. Vet seems to think it's more of a a muscle issue or maybe some inflamation. I'm wondering if she got hurt playing since everything is under a sheet of ice. Jumped and crash landed. I'm hoping she pulls through as I sort of liked this one. She liked to climb up my jeans leg when she was a brand new kitten. Likes to be held. So I will keep her inside from now on with two other cats. She has some meds to reduce inflamation and I hope that's all it needs. Rest and some meds. I swear dealing with these critters is worse than dealing with sick humans. Will post a picture in a bit. ❤️ I know they can steal your heart especially when they need you. I just got a new older cat. It's owner died and it was going to be put down. I couldn't let that happen. He doesn't fit in with me or my other cat. But he needs me. So I'll give him a home as long as he lives. I'll do my best and accept the outcome. |

She's doing okay but still lame. I do see some use of the hindquarters so that's encouraging. She has an appetite, and finally made a poop in the litterbox. I was happy to see that as it means her nerves back there are functional. Been letting her out into the living room with the other two cats. They are about 50% okay with the new cat. No fights but a few hisses. New kitten on the left. Half-sister far right. And TY for the well wishes. Attached File |
