It's a VaPer like the Deluxe Navy Rolls, but adds a bit of Black Cavendish to the mix to sweeten and cool it down a bit. If you haven't tried it yet, I also recommend giving straight Black Cavendish a try on its own. It's commonly used for blending, but it's delicious all by itself. I believe Lane and Peter Stokkebye Black Cavendish are both described as having a vanilla flavor, but the C&D version doesn't have any additional flavoring, just in case it matters for potential blending. |

| New pipes and tobacco are in. I have been getting my tobacco from a local shop about an hour from me. But the stuff I had ordered is another level of smoking pleasure. It is so much easier to keep it lit and taste is better. I know the local stuff is wetter and have been trying to dry it out more to help. Big question for the pros. How often do you clean your pipes? Do you do a complete tear down and clean or just when needed? Lots of learning to go |

I run a pipe cleaner through mine and wipe the rim. I will take Isopropyl Alcohol and dab a paper towel and ream the bowl. Gets rid of some of the carbon and ash dust, but doesnt really remove cake. I use the same paper towel section on multiple pipes so I'll do this every week or so. I do tend to smoke 1 pipe consecutively for a few days before I let it dry out. Cleaning a pipe is like cleaning a pistol..it's really not as necessary to do it as often or as much as you would think. |

I'll dip some pipe cleaners in high proof bourbon (I used 151 rum until I misplaced the bottle) and clean out the stem and shank. This is what the bristled pipe cleaners are good for, especially the shank. I generally have to trim the cake in the bowl back with a reamer every 3-4 months, then do a quick wipe inside the bowl with a paper towel wetted with bourbon to take care of the loose carbon. Let it dry in pieces for a day or two and then you're back in business. |

I tried a couple ounces of Bullseye flake and thought I would never get through with that stuff. All I could taste was vanilla. So I ended up punching out the cavendish centers and throwing them away. If you abhor vanilla flavored cavendish as much as I do, try Stokkebye Luxury Navy flake instead. |

The only thing from Seattle Pipe Club I've tried so far is Plum Pudding, and it really is as good as all the reviews claim it to be. I also have a tin of the Plum Pudding Special Reserve, but haven't tried it yet. |

I am smoking Three Nuns this evening while doodling on new stag grips for a little NAA revolver I recently picked up. Having some trouble keeping it lit, but I've still got a lot to figure out Also, thinking about my grandpa and what tobacco he might have enjoyed. I don't recall tins or labels on anything; best I can recall, he kept a pint sized mason jar or two alongside a pipe rack with 8 or 10 pipes, and didn't mind me stealing his pipe cleaners for my 'projects' as my grandmother called them. Does anybody have a thought about what a WW II aviator might have kept stocked, say around 1990 to 2000? >Nostalgia is a big factor and that familiar smell is something i'm after. I won't be at all surprised if it was simply whatever was a good deal at the base PX.

They don't taste good either. As far as cleaning with alcohol, I use Jameson on pipe cleaners. Just don't get that stuff on the outside, it'll take off the wax. |

Thanks, guys. Next time i go by a Walgreens or whatnot I'll give it a shot I did get an ounce of Peter Stokkbye Black Cavendish at a small cigar shop earlier. For $5 it seemed like it fit the part of an inexpensive bulk aromatic, and the smell closely matched my recollection |

My new bag of Apricots & Cream showed up...started worrying you heathens would buy it all. Oh, and the luxury naval flake with the black centers showed up...I liked it, though I think it needs more grindering than I managed with my fingers last night. I'll try the dope grinder on it. |

I had made this pipe cabinet about 20 years ago. It seems to mostly function as a place to keep the pipes I don't smoke anymore The tobacco tins are mostly Gawith's Full Virginia Flake, Solani Gold Flake, and a few random ones. The yellow cans are Rattray's Hal o' the Wynd virginia.  |

It does seem like the community is rather small considering there are relatively few sites to buy from. where did you find it. I have gone through half of mine already. edit:nevermind i see pipesandcigars has it. i have been favoring it over the other aromatics, though i do like the cult black cherry. i have been smoking the non aromatics every few nights as well, and I have accepted the latakia. the smell for some reason at first put me off. i do think the virginias smell the best still though. |
