I bought a new laptop from the Lenovo Outlet for work/play and I'm pretty stoked. It's going to be the nicest laptop I have ever owned. I have been watching some random stuff on youtube (Including Salemtech) and after repairing hundreds of broken laptops he has declared that Lenovo makes the most robustly-built and repairable laptops on the market right now. I also watched a video of the process of upgrading the memory on a MacBook. Hint: the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard. |

Most apple products these days are completely non upgradable down to solder on flash memory for the HDD. Everyone just laughs when I recommend Lenovo. They seem to make solid machines. |

I love thinkpads. They have survived all 4 of our kids through the years. Tossing, tantrums, dropping, spilt drinks, busted ass outer shell and they still run like a champ. Battery are shot on 2 of our originals, they are the back up have to be plugged in to run but they still run. |

I used to use ThinkPads when they were made by IBM. I remember seeing a video of the National Weather Service using one of their 10 ton radar trucks to purposely run over a ThinkPad to see if they were really that tough and they were able to recover the hard drive because the inner skeleton chassis was made of magnesium and didn't get crushed. Too bad IBM screwed the pooch when they sold off their PC division. |

Okay it arrived today. It basically looks brand new. The installation process is for Windows 11 is stupid! So many questions. The other annoying thing is that it has a 4-zone RGB keyboard.... fine.. but it's constantly changing colors and flashing and I can't change it until Windows is finished installing. |

Given the price point, this was an incredible price. The SSD isn't top of the line, but in all honesty... It will perform, and do just fine. That also confirms the 1 stick of RAM. Which isn't great, but most laptops will have that sort of setup. I am not super familiar with Lenovo's, but it is worth a shot to see if there is an extra open slot for another stick. Could be a really good bang for your buck upgrade. **Edit** Found some official documentation from Lenovo, Max Memory[1] Up to 64GB DDR5-4800 Memory Slots Two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, dual-channel capable Max Storage Support[1] Up to two drives, 2x M.2 SSD • M.2 2242 SSD up to 1TB • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB Storage Slot[2] Two M.2 2280 PCIe® 4.0 x4 slots So looks like you can upgrade the ram to a max of 64gb, is how I read it. So 2x 32gb sticks. As for the SSD. Looks like you can toss another 1tb in there if needed! |

Interestingly, RAM is experiencing a bit of a shortage / price increase right now. The SSD isn't super fast, but it's a good value. I decided 1TB is plenty for me right now, I have tons of "empty" storage on all my other computers. |

It took 10 small phillips screws to get the back off; Looks pretty good inside... Attached File It is indeed 1 stick of SK Hynix RAM. Interesting enough, there are only a small number of companies that make RAM chips Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix are the biggest; Kingston uses SK usually. That would also give me an excuse to make a clean install file as recommended above. |

I did some extensive research on SSDs for Laptop Use 990 Pro is the fastest but it's also probably the most expensive $180 for 2TB WD Black SN850x is nearly as fast and costs less $160 WD Black SN7100 is about 5% slower write speeds (same read speed) than the SN850x and uses 30% less power. In fact it's the power consumption king of all the SSDs I've found. $140 The 990 Evo Plus is slower than all of these and $150 |
