I remember being an altar boy and everyone came to the altar rail, knelt, and received Communion. I held the paten under each parishioner's chin as they received. I think it encapsulates the bigger (bad) trend of increasing "casualness" of people towards attending Mass. The Church shouldn't cater/acquiesce to the mob. I now volunteer as an usher and lector. I'm always, at the minimum, wearing a sport coat (to conceal my pistol, among other reasons), nice pants, button-down shirt and shoes. When I lector, it's a suit and tie. It makes me sad how many people dress like bums coming to church - shorts, jeans, t-shirts, crop-tops, flip flops, etc. What happened to "Sunday best?" IMHO, it shows a lack of respect/reverence. |
