The ones I know of spend no time in the woods except during hunting season, do not touch a firearm all year until hunting season, and than all of a sudden once hunting season comes around they are all of a sudden these " big outdoors " people. In the meantime these same guys are using parts of their property as dump sites for trash, vehicles, etc...or worse they are the guy/hunter that moved in across the street from me, in order to avoid trash bills they burn all their household trash, including plastics on a weekly basis ( its pretty much a low density residential neighborhood around here these days ). |

The simplest way to describe it is that the people I knew who hunted out west were more " true outdoorsmen/women " than the people here. They basically lived and breathed the outdoors...of course some owned or lived on ranches/large properties so that made it easy. The hunters I know here in PA are far more Fudd like, only bring touch or think about their firearms when its close to hunting season, and in many cases are only in the woods during hunting season. |

That may be a very low number compared to overall numbers of hunters in the woods, but every single person who gets killed or wounded by some idiot in the woods was/ is a real person. They aren't an anomaly to their friends and family, and just about anyone who frequents the woods can put themselves in the place of those victims and don't want to be the next guy who takes a bullet because of some guy who didnt do the right thing. Nor are non-hunters limited to big city residents of " Manhattan" or its equivalents. The reality is that there are indeed bad hunters, just like there are bad gun owners and bad drivers and bad members of any other group. Hunters may want to portray everyone in their group as being highly trained principled people who would never do anything wrong, but in this very thread we have people posting that they see no issues mixing booze and firearms, for example. |

Roughly 15 million people hunt each year. And countless other millions interact with them in the field. About 450 accidents occur, 24 percent of those are fall injuries from tree stands. About 65 people die each year, includes gun shots, heart attacks, etc. So about . 003 percent of folks have an accident. Hunting is far safer statistically then almost all other sports. |

I understand that. But we can’t shelter in place for fear of the unknown for every single thing. People in general are stupid. What I have a problem with is when shit like this causes legislators to pass really dumb laws that affect the overwhelming majority because of a couple of incidents. Pretty soon there will be a “law” where you must register your specific hunting location, on a .gov portal, and add your firearms serial number. Don’t get me wrong, I do think there should be some form of required hunters safety. Right now, in my state at least, if you are a certain age you are grandfathered in to not having to even learn the basics of firearm safety. |

Right now, in my state at least, if you are a certain age you are grandfathered in to not having to even learn the basics of firearm safety. But non-hunters in this thread are being told to stay out of the woods during four months of hunting because we should be happy being able to be outside for the other eight months. I agree that politicians do pass some dumb laws, but the dumb laws get passed because dumb things keep happening. Arguing that those dumb things are statistically very low doesn't help, for reasons I've already stated. Saying that " people in general are stupid" doesn't help things. Stupid people should not be out in the woods doing stupid things with their firearms. That's a basic expectation for people who have to share those woods with everyone else. Saying that commenting about " sound shots" is a lefty fiction doesn't help hunters. Claiming that anyone who opposes bad hunters is a big city resident doesn't help hunters. I'm all for letting hunters having some priority in the woods for the duration of a limited big game season. But in my lifetime that time period has grown longer and longer and longer. As someone else in the thread pointed out some animals have a 365 day a year season in their state |

For simple tresspassing? "Modern solutions", really? In some situations that might be considered "assault with a deadly weapon" or something similar. There was another thread where one group of "hunters" shot at another group to, apparently, chase them away from "their" hunting area. IIRC, there were posts saying that was a common practice. Other than taking cover, not sure what I would do if I found myself under hostile fire. Several options come to mind...... |

I would guess the majority of eastern hunters literally/physically could not hunt out west. As far as ethics and outdoorsmanship, I'm sorry to hear that's all you've come across. My hunting values have more to do with herd management, feeding the family, and spending time with the kids, making memories, teaching them the woods and the craft. Collectively we've taken 8 shots this season, killed 8 deer, and processed them all ourselves. There are a bunch of people in my hunting community like me (or at least want to be like me ).Attached File Attached File |

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
| Anytime someone says "I thought it was a deer, bear, whatever" they aren't helping there case. Unless they are in a deer costume or some weird shit, its obvious you never identified your target. You saw something move and shot. Which proves you have zero brain capacity to be doing business in the woods. |

No, had nothing to do with that. Liberals have spent years conflating second amendment rights and hunting. “Why do you need an AR15 to hunt?” Then inevitably someone sits around like an imbecile trying to explain why an AR15 is ideal for elk, because they want to do mental gymnastics on that instead of saying it’s not, it’s better for shooting people. The second amendment is about shooting people, not deer. |

| That’s why my kids aren’t allowed on my property line to the North on the homestead during hunting season. Have one bad neighbor who is a raging alcoholic and a devoted deer hunter. Wouldn’t surprise me after he pounds a case of coors light that he’d mistake one of my girls for a deer. |

Fat, stupid, and not even a pretend knowledge of safety. They won’t zero their rifles… that’s if they bother to even have sights since they’re a real man who can “aim down the barrel” and sights are for people who can’t shoot. It’s okay, though, because their meemaw is 1/8 Cherokee Indian and they grew up in the woods. Absolutely insufferable trailer park trash. |

Watching the kids shoot Pieeater's 1919 was great. Nothing warms the heart more than seeing a little kid kneeling in a pile of brass and links.-Pthfndr after the Nov 13th NorCal shoot

But… I’ve hunted literally my entire life, all over the country. So has my son. So has my father. So did my grandfather. So has all the men in my family. When I was young in college I worked at a bass pro shop and even became a manager. I’ve seen people be unsafe. I’ve heard stories I wouldn’t brag about. I have frustrations with some hunters too. You know what I’ve never heard hunters talk about? Shooting at sounds. Literally the only time I’ve heard of that is on some made for tv movie where they’re trying to villainize hunters or from some non hunting Karen repeating whatever she heard from another non hunting Karen. Maybe there’s a kernel of truth to it, just like there’s a kernel of truth to every urban legend that people repeat like it’s gospel. |

Always hated when they’d bring in “pappy’s durr rafle” when it needs “a good cleanin’”. Inevitably have to hear the stories of how grandpa brought this piece of shit J.C. Higgins back “from the war” and how he learned to shoot it “when I were knee high to a grasshopper”. “It’s a good shootin’ rafle, he killed a bunch of **** with it.” Yeah, yeah, I’m sure he did… probably got this impressively consistent coat of rust during the war. Definitely can tell it’s a “good shootin’ gun” based on the decades of dog hair, rust, and ass crack lint crammed down the bore, the loose mounts, and the canted crosshairs. I’ll never forget that familiar stench and residue of stale cigarette smoke and piss that makes you want to wear gloves to even look at the nasty garbage rod. How do they make them all smell the same? That’s the part that perplexes me. |
