Likely with the keyed face parallel to the build plate. But as blob said would probably be best to design in two parts, with the key insert and the handle being separate peices. Simply to avoid excessive support material. Many, many ways to create the interface between the pieces, as are the fastening techniques. |

| That part could be split down the middle long ways and the two halves glued together. Put some alignment tabs or pin holes in there. Print it from ABS and acetone bond the two halves together and the joint will be stronger than the layer adhesion throughout the rest of the part. |

I'd remodel the design to make it printer friendly. Like this, I'd cut back one side of the round keyway part to be even with the flat of the keyway and then lay it down on that large side surface. That shouldn't change it enough to effect it's use, and it gives you a nice large surface for a strong print. Then as far as the handle part, you could do whatever, make it a big block with the one side also inline with your new bottom plane, or do the 2-part thing. The handle area isn't critical, so no need to keep it like the original unless that were your goal.

Thanks everyone and love the comments lol. A buddy wants one with steam punk accents. I told him I would try PA612-CF15 with soldi infill and if it breaks, make it in 6061. I have no idea why he wants but he is a train engineer. I made supports 2MM thick and used .6mm nubs so I think I will give this a go and if it washes out try the two piece design, I was reserving that for if I had to make in Aluminum as my 4th axis costs too much to run in Fusion for a hobbyist. This method worked well for me on a few pistol frames I did. I hoped to just sand on the end and print but y'all for me thinking about that top part.   |
