Anyone got a US Senator under their belt?

Not often.

My response would be. "I'm going to do my job here and now. I'm sure you'll get this fixed. It doesn't bother me if you get it fixed so go right ahead."

@ICEAGE

That's a pretty good answer, actually. I'll bet you 3/4 of the people that carry on that way CAN'T get it fixed. They're bluffing.

My answer to "Do you know who I am?"

"No but my score now is two mayors, 3 state representatives, two of who I jailed for DUI, a state senator, 2 congressman and a senior US senator I also popped for drugs. Now who are you, anyway?"

This goes back about 20+ years but I got stopped for speeding and looked at the cop and said to him, "Which one of these will work? I went to college with the mayor, my uncle is a state senator, my aunt works in town hall, my best friend was the governor's college roommate...and, Oh Yeah. I shook Cowboy Bob's hand at a Curtis Farms supermarket opening. If none of them will get me off they just write my sorry up because I was hauling ass to get home for the first time in a month."

I got written up. Failure to obey a posted sign. $25 fine. When he handed me my ticket he actually thanked me for the entertainment and told me he had a rookie in the car and was teaching him or he would have just given me a warning.

I knew which side my bread was buttered on and was grateful as hell.

I have two favorites. I was running about 6 or 7 over at about 0300 and got stopped on the PA turnpike just after the exit. I knew it was a fishing expedition and truth is I knew it was an intersection of a drug highway. The PA turnpike is just that. I was on my way home from a 3 week tour at sea. I actually respected he was doing his job and not sleeping somewhere. The trooper had to say something. He asked me what the hurry was.

In my best Goober/Gomer Pyle I said, "Officer, my baby sister called me and told me my momma just won EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS in a wet T-shirt contest and I gotta get the money before she spends it on cocaine! Last time she got coked up she flipped her Harley and was in the hospital for 3 months. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.(I was probably 66 at the time. Do the math. Momma was 90 and still shakin' em?)

He saw I was clean and sober, ran wants and warrants and handed me my license back and said "That's one of the top five excuses I have heard in my entire career. Have a good day and slow it down."

The third one I'll post some other time.

When I was a federal supervisor, I was awakened by a call from USSS one night because one of my employees was dealing with the arrest of a close relative of a sitting POTUS. That was an interesting one…

I was once pulled over for going insanely fast in an unmarked investigator’s vehicle. I was on state business, I did not use the lights, and pulled over immediately. The officer who pulled me over ran the plates and knew the car was a vehicle off the DMV records. He approached the window, asked for my badge and I didn’t have one. He then asked for my license and state ID and said I was going to have a bad day because as soon as he called in the plates it would generate a report to the agency I worked for. I said I understood, and could I please have my citation so I could return to the Capitol as I was on urgent business. He asked who I worked for and I told him I’d prefer not to answer that as I did not want to appear as trying to get out of the ticket.

At that point he noticed the lapel pin I was wearing which was a security identifier for the state police who work protective details to know who could access certain people and places during events where the governor and other senior officials were. He said he was going to let me go, keep it under 80 and he was sorry he couldn’t do anything about the report that would go to my agency head. I thanked him and drove off. A couple times on the rest of the drive (one end of the state to the other) a cop would pull up, see the plate and I’d hear “company car” over the radio. I wasn’t pulled over again.

Next day I get to work and my secretary says the commissioner needs to see you. I told her thanks, I’ll go see him in a few. She said, no he wants to see you now. Went to his office and he was not his normal congenial self. Told me to sit down and opened a folder with the seal of the state police on it. Apparently that report got printed pretty quickly. He said, I’m going to ask you one question and you better not lie. Did you try to get out of the ticket, to which I told him no sir I ASKED for the ticket but he wouldn’t write one. Commissioner looked up and said, yeah that’s what the Trooper said when I spoke with him this morning. Good thing you didn’t try, you would have lost your job for pulling that.

As I was leaving he said, by the way, don’t take a company car again. Ask for an investigator to drive you if you’re going to pull that shit.

Ahhhhhhh, so that’s what a “company car” is…

That was about 25 years ago, not sure how it would be handled today. I don’t work in government any longer, but still get PBA cards hand signed by the presidents of many LE unions in the state and business cards with their signature and cell with a request to call them if I ever need it. I now drive like an old lady and haven’t been pulled over in 20 years except for a headlamp that went out and I truly wasn’t aware.

I couldn’t imagine trying to pull that shit with an officer. I might make calls after the fact, but with body cameras and shit I’m not putting an officer in that position.

Thanks guys and gals for all you do.

Leaving the forum now, only popped in because this thread showed up in my active thread feed and thought there might be some great stories.

OUTSTANDING!

What can they say?

But...but...but...

When I was a street cop in a small city, it happened quite frequently. As a federal agent it’s never happened once.

As a federal agent I wouldn't imagine that would happen very often. I would imagine the further down the line one went the more it is likely to happen. A small town cop is more likely to have to deal with that bullshit.

Hooked up a state legislator for promotion of prostitution, closest I've ever come to a senator was his chief of staff.  (DWI with his kids in the car.)

There was a weird time when I was collecting district attorney employees.  three assistant DA's and one of their investigators.  All in a span of about 6 weeks.  Was called on the carpet for that one.

I was not "targeting" them, they just all happened to hang out in the same bars. Three for DWI, one for interfering with an arrest  of a DWI friend.

That's a pretty good one.

At 73 I would not be able to pull it off.

I might get away with it if I said my granddaughter, though.

BTDT.  Dinged a state assistant AG once.  He had a bad driving record, so seemed like a slow learner, so he got a ticket like anyone else.

Turned into a big shitshow (for him) when he tried to weasel out of it, he wrote a letter to the court claiming he was basically exempt, someone at the court leaked the letter (I think), press got ahold of it, the actual AG was not amused.  Did not do his career any good at all…

All over a ticket that I had actually written for far lower than what he was doing.  Last time I ever did that- only reduced them in the courtroom later.

I have a coin from a member of the US House of Representatives. He was the passenger in the car on the way to a campaign event. He didn’t tell me who he was or give me the coin until after the stop was completed. I was going to vote for him prior to the stop, his behavior didn’t change my mind.
